The exhaust and tune are the very best jumping off point. Lightweight parts and such are part of a much bigger picture. If you do all the free weight reduction first and are running out of ways to do more then is the time to start looking at parts. The cost per gain ratio from a lightweight shaft is horrible.

86 is not a race car. It is a fun car that can be raced.

If you haven't done it already, and are looking for weight savings, get wheels and tires. The stock FRS wheel is 20.7 lbs, which is heavy for a 17x7. The cliche RPF1s in 17x7.5 are 15.1 lbs, and can accommodate a 225 width tire. That's about a 18 - 20 lbs savings in unsprung weight, with more tire (estimated because I have no idea how much weight the wider tire will add). In contrast, a carbon driveshaft seems to save about 10 lbs. If you wait until your tires need replaced anyway, the wheels will likely be less expensive as well. Quote:
Or this. If I could lay off the junk food all over the place at work, and go hiking more, I could probably drop 30 or so pounds of driver myself. If it mattered. Also tempted to make that last part a sig. |

This is why I don't tell jokes
I tell people my car is essentially a 2 door Camry (even though its no where close) to avoid explaining backstory of the Twins - unless I get the feeling they are interested. |

Hm... that's all depends. Any car can become "race car" with a proper modification. Google dictionary define "Race car" as "an automobile built or modified for racing." So in that definition, 86 can and can't be race car. It's all depends on how you "build or modified" it. Hell even Ichishima-san made Honda Fit into a legit race car. Other example would be GT300 class Toyota Prius.
Also I don't think, I can name 1 car that's fit the term "race car" out from stock form. It might get close to be one out of box, but still need to modified to fit in the term "race car". |

Oh, hell. You know what I mean. None of us are racers. We're "enthusiasts."

Any change is negligible at best, but if it matters that much then just stick with 17x7 and 215 tires. With 225, you'd also have to calculate the additional rolling resistance, assuming that we're only concerned with acceleration and not cornering speed. |
