Epic Drive #2: August Weekend, Fall Foliage?

EDIT: Weekend has been chosen: Aug 11-12.

A couple hotel options:

2 guys per room with two doubles = $60 + fees
4 guys per room with two queens = $70 + fees

I'll start a new thread with an agenda soon... I'm waiting to hear back from Mt Equinox about the schedule for the auto race. Depending on that, perhaps we can start with a brunch in Brattleboro on Saturday and then check out the auto race at Equinox on the way to Rutland.

Who's in?

----------------------------------------------------------------

Epic drive #1 was, well, epic. Epic drive #2 could take it a step further with two days of VT mountain passes. The routes I'm plotting will put the previous run to shame. Possible agenda:

Sat
  • Meet in Brattleboro
  • Lunch/drivers meeting
  • Drive to Mt Equinox, Rutland, hotel
  • Dinner
  • Maybe short drive/movie
Sun
  • Breakfast/drivers meeting
  • Drive to Texas Falls
  • More drive!
  • Mid-late afternoon meal (maybe in Lebanon, NH)
I'm wondering how many would be interested and what August weekend(s) would be good. Alternatively, we could do it during Fall Foliage, though traffic would be heavier and hotels charge more ($55-70 for a double in August, twice that in October).

I've been on jaw-dropping Miata runs that were so big that we split into slow, medium, and fast groups. I don't expect anywhere near that sort of turn-out for an FT86 run, but depending on how many go we might be able to get a group rate at the hotel.

Note: I'm going out of town for a couple weeks with limited Internet access... I'll check this thread when I return.

The whole idea sounds great. I hope plenty of members will jump on this and hopefully we'll see if the FRS's will mix it in with BRZ's this time around.

Anyway I only voted for the Aug 11-12 and Aug 25-26. I could do Aug 18-19, but that would be my birthday weekend and I haven't made any definite plans yet, so I'm not sure what might happen that weekend.

And I have no problem with an October event too.

You guys should consider cruising down to lime rock for the historic races on labor day. I was just there for ALMS and I think I was the only frs/brz.

YES! The Historic Festival is an absolute MUST SEE!!! Hundreds of vintage race cars, many of which I guarantee you've never seen before and would otherwise never see again!

Fall Foliage in August? We usually go in October for the MR2 club... We should all hook up and do it in October, just sayin...

I don't know where everyone is coming from but you can link some nice backroads starting at 10 on the CT border to the track. Most the rural curvy CT backroads are in much better shape than massachusetts as well.

I'm free every weekend in August (as of now), but I would rather get an early start to the day, say 8-9AM, and cruise throughout the day than to make it an overnight event.

Hmmmm... I just noticed that there's an auto race up Equinox on 8/11 and 8/12. On the one hand, that might be cool to check out. On the other hand, we wouldn't be able to drive up.

An all-day event is also a possibility, but with over 250 miles of driving plotted out, I figure it'd be too much for one day. We could shorten it, but then it might not be worth traveling all the way up there for. FWIW, it should be only ~$30-40 to share a room with one other person (in August).

I usually go on Memorial Day, but I had to skip the last one. Labor Day might pan out this year.

Oh yes, there are a couple of routes that I take there.

The thread title might not be entirely clear. From the original post:

Depends how things pan out, but perhaps an overnight will work, just depends on what my schedule looks like as it gets closer. I can't wait to go on another drive though!

So.... any ideas on dates at this point? Got a lot of stuff I'm trying to juggle for August and I want to make this fit if I can.

I just got back in town. Looks like Aug 11-12 wins the poll. A couple hotel options:

2 guys per room with two doubles = $60 + fees
4 guys per room with two queens = $70 + fees

I'm OK with either.

Who's in?

Come on Chris, you can do this!

I am 95% sure I'm down for the weekend.
