Graphics cards are the most important and usually most expensive component of a gaming PC. They have been at a 50+% markup for the past several months. Makes a $600-700 card go for $1k plus. |

So with a good PC you can just generate bitcoin? Edit: Tell me more. I got a credit card. I'll spend $500 on this antminer thing if it just sits around the house and generates cash.

Yeah, I have a wheel with alcantara like material (might be alcantara but don't remember exactly) that I got thanks to the forums. It was already used but now the material is pretty shiny and matted. Sucks that there is no good way to clean alcantara from what I have looked at besides maybe a microfiber cloth. Still nicer then my OEM wheel that was peeling though. |

So if you are looking to mine Bitcoin itself, there's a couple caveats: First, there are a finite amount of BC that can be mined, as designed by the creators of the currency. Ceiling is 21 million BC, with around 16.8 million mined so far. If you were to seriously consider mining going forward, there are smaller crypto-currencies on the market already (Litecoin, Ethereum, etc) that arent as popular or as valuable, but who knows what the next big crypto cash will be. A good article that lists some of the "big players" can be found HERE. Second, it can take a while to generate one piece of bitcoin or other crypto cash, due to the technology and coding that goes into creating a "coin." Depends on how much GPU (Graphics processing units) you have running the computations. I have heard of serious "miners" with multiple "mining rigs" that don't have to use their furnace to heat their house during the winter due to all the heat that is being given off by their computers. But, if you want the worldwide number, about one BC is being generated every 10 minutes, and there are thousands and thousands of people mining on a 24 hour basis. Well, thats a heck of a "Hey, I'm back!" post. |

Edit: So what I'm saying is that buying a shit ton of overpriced GPUs is the way to do it, providing you're getting enough horsepower to get a quick return on your money. Which, at this point, highly unlikely. For example, my GTX 1070 can make about 5 dollars per day, after electricity costs are accounted for. At that rate, I'm looking at nearly 180 days to start making a profit, by that time though, crypto could have changed from proof of work to proof of stake Second edit: That 5 dollars per day is also based on my card being run for 24 hours per day, rendering it useless for my intended purpose, which is gaming Last edited by Cole; 02-06-2018 at 01:40 PM. |

No. Crypto is dumb. When the primary upwards driver of value is instability, it is not a good currency. Useless waste of energy.
