This was my favourite part.

Drive the car, and do way, way more research.

Will it be less expensive? No. Cost of admission is not your total expense; cheap parts WILL BREAK MUCH MORE OFTEN, and will cause more damage when they go. Would you rather replace the ebay turbo 5 times a year, or a quality turbo once every 5-10 years?

When the expensive turbo does go, you'll likely have to have the seals in the turbo replaced. When the cheap turbo goes, you'll be replacing whatever else it breaks with its catastrophic failure. Do you see what we're playing at here? The expensive part is not the initial buy in. You may want to roll your eyes at every forum post on the internet, by that one guy with a 3641 post count and a smug avatar, that advises "Do it right the first time". There's a reason there's one of them for every 50 10 post eBay warriors; because doing it right gives them the time to post. EBay warriors are out trying to fix their car still.
Its my car so I can choose to put whatever Brand Name parts I want. If I choose to go all ebay Chinese parts thats my decision. I'm not asking for suggestions for what turbos are good. Never once did I say I was going with cheap Ebay parts. However I did say I was on a budget.

Literally the title of his thread (Want to turbo my BRZ...Ideas?) then gets upset when people recommend he stay away from certain parts/brands....This thread will be short lived.

I blew the motor/turbo on my wrx years back. Tried the ebay route. Turbo costed similar to what you want to pay for what you wanna get. Was DOA could not hold boost at all due to a being poorly manufactured.

There are tons of reputable companies out there that will simply work with you on the kit if your only concerns are budget and no internal WG.

Good luck with this thread and your attitude.

if there is any part of a turbo kit I would go for a name brand on, its the turbo itself.

The Garret GT2860R is slightly more than the turbo you linked. I would go with that. I think your hardest part may be the manifold and shaping that properly, but I think you can buy one from a kit without actually purchasing the kit. Just make sure the flanges on the turbo line up properly You'll have to weld in a bung to your oil pan for drain back. IC and charge piping is a routing issue and then you can select which wastegate and BOV you want.

Basic turbo kit on a budget with a good, tried and true turbo, and not the ones you linked earlier.

Thanks. Im going to go witb the Maps manifold kit and the Full Blown stg1 intecooler kit. Still might stick to this turbo as ive read others having positive results woth them. The company also sells Borg Warner turbos.

Also i will be buying a pre tapped oil pan.

Are you certain that the MAP performance manifold will position the turbo in such a way that the FBM cold side components will line up and fit properly? I suppose that you can always get different shaped couplers and cut them to size if needed....but I don't see the point in piecing together a kit.

I'm not sure but I just assumed that they were a reputable company and its made for the brz that it should fit without any modifications. What makes people have to cut the crash beam out?

To save money and choose my own parts.
