Forget the early dip. That plummet at the top end would interesting to deal with.

I've been raised not to, which I am very thankful for. I welcome criticism. For the most part, as long as its constructive. I'm going to have a bad time if you say "Your work sucks". Ok, well yeah. Tell me why? I worry all the time about getting into the real world with a real job, i.e. working as a programmer at MS or some other tech company, as someone who is still young; it scares the living shit out of me.

I can generally tell when someone is being grumpy though lol. It's pretty obvious. When my future boss will be having a bad day, and takes it out on me, or the team, it can be understood. Unfortunate side effect of stress and the like.

Though you are definitely allowed to ask why you need to do things a certain way, at least where I'm at. Usually the things that make life 20% harder for you right now make it 60% easier somewhere else, and figuring that out is important for 'personal growth'. |

I too faced the exact same fears as I started my career as an engineer some 30 years ago... and within a week of starting my first job I realized that I was as good or better than half the old timers. Yes, I had a lot still to learn, and I was not over confident. But the fear vanished. The funny thing is, the bigger/more intimidating the company, the LESS you have to worry! Yes, there will be a lot of exceptional engineers you can learn a lot from and aspire to emulate, but at the same time a place like Microsoft, Amazon, or Google simply cannot hire 100,000 "rock star" engineers, and there will be lots and lots of engineers that are average and just get things done. There is nothing wrong with this, nor am I disparaging these engineers. If you are reasonably competent, have a good attitude, and are willing to learn/adapt you will do fine. End of "old fart" life lesson/advise. Knock 'em dead kid!

I just dont want to end up being the scape goat when I'm told to do something "technically" wrong by management, things turn out bad and they blame me. This is the hierarchy though, isnt it? get blamed for the eventual bad manager. I know not all managers aren't bad. Hell, most aren't. There will be some bad apples though.

Part of the reason I didn't like it. It still had more torque at the top than a brz but was way less exciting.
