Drift day at the Marina airport (Monterey county)

In case anyone is interested, see link to their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/driftcentral/).

$110

Not sure if I'll be in town then or not, but thought I would at least share.

That location is great! NO WALLS!! You can really initiate at like 60 mph without being afraid to smash your new shiny financed car into concrete block. xD
I wish I could've go there this time, but have too much family stuff going on lately, so all tire monies spent on boring things

My wife told me she wants to drift. So we are going to at least go to watch.

I’m not sure that my car would even be able to drift very well. Stockk motor, 3.55 gear and 265/35/18’s. Would it be worth it to try?

Lots of questions haha. Any experts here?

There are quite a few threads already about what you 'need' to go drift an 86, the only barrier I see in your setup is the tires, you'll want normal sized tires that aren't too sticky, if you have stock wheels/tires slap 'em back on, if you don't, go pick up a set for like $400, there was a set of '17 wheels and tires posted up a few days ago.

Thanks for the link, that will keep me busy for a while

I figured I had too much rubber but I thought I’d ask if it was worth it to try. I’m building the car for big power so everything is big and the stock wheels won’t fit clear the brakes.

I’ve never even been to a drift event...so I think we are just gonna go to spectate first and see what it’s all about. Are you going?

I'd like to go at some point, but it's not in the near future. I go to Marina quite a bit for autocross so I'm familiar with the site. Bring sunblock and jackets, cloudless windy days are common.

Why the big brakes? Do you plan on tracking the car?

Thanks for the tips!

Yes the plan was a few track events but mostly “spirited” backroads driving and autocross...until she told me she wanted to drift...so maybe that too. I realize the brakes are overkill if not too big even for track duty...I just really wanted them.

I think we’ll try to get in on a few of the remaining autocross events with the stock motor so my wife can get a feel for it...so maybe we’ll be back there the following weekend too.

Should be interesting on those steamroller wheels and your spring rates.

Porsche club or BMW?

My only tip is if you don't spin it out you haven't driven it hard enough.

Still a coin flip at this point...wife got a hair-did appointment on Saturday, but I am gone for another 2.5 weeks so I'm not sure I can pull a weekend day.

We'll see

I’m sure it’s too stiff for autocross but maybe I’ll have enough tire grip to put down some good times. Autocross for fun not to be competitive...I doubt I’d be that competitive in the class I’d have to be in...never know though maybe if we really love it I can tweek the suspension towards auto cross.

I haven’t joined any clubs yet. What do you recommend.

If nothing else this car will be fun to watch
