Nope. You CAN put electrical tape over it.

All cars built after September 2007 are required to have a TMPS system, it's fallout from the Ford Explorer/Firestone blowout problems from back in the early 2000's.

Ok, great. My old car made after that, and had a TPMS. But I turned it off because it worked about as well as the French Army...

Except that these sensors allegedly operate on motion, not just pressure. They won't be so easily defeated.

I honestly recommend not using the pipe bomb and keeping the TPMS system intact. Most people find it a nuisance as I did too, but one day the TPMS alerted me of having a nail on my left rear tire and the next week a nail in my right rear. If not for the TPMS, I woud have drove pretty far and fast in my S2000 with a nail in my tire and ended up with a possible blowout. Most people have never let the TPMS benefit them yet, but I for one am thankful

It's not a matter of charging. They are activated by the rotation of the wheel which will cause them to signal their status at a regular interval. Tho only other times they will send out a signal is if they experience a sudden pressure change, or if a triggering tool makes them transmit.

You might be able to use the canister along with a triggering tool that was modified to trigger at some regular interval. Probably pretty complicated and not worth the effort.

P.S. If you know your sensor IDs - Ateq Quickset can read/set TPMS ids on my BRZ via Toyota CAN profile. I think tirerack includes sensor IDs on their invoice.

Has anyone confirmed that the Ateq Quickset (or some other reasonably priced tool) can be used to program the car when swapping sets of TPMS-equipped rims/tires? (I have the sensor IDs)
