Yep. When you are doing a lot of shifting, it only takes one bad downshift while in a corner. You could actually see the moment he let out the clutch. the direction of the car instantly changed pretty dramatically. I only do that when I WANT to radically drift sideways.

2k rpm is fine for cruising. As said by others it won't take too kindly to accelerating though. I regularly sit in 6th at 40mph+
Also, if you are shifting from 6th @ 2000rpm to 4th, the rev difference is probably 1000rpm at most. Hardly a big deal for the syncros and definately not really needing a blip let alone a ducking double clutch. Some people make me wonder. As to the original problem. The gearbox is very tight when new and it very sensitive to the alignment of the linkage and the box. I have had mine back from the dealers and each time they touch the linkage or the gearbox it comes back with different resisting gears. Currently 1st and 2nd refuse occasionally. It will probably sort itself out after 10k miles, if it doesn't try getting a mechanic to realign the linkage or fit a shift kit.

When new the car refused 2nd periodically. After their "identify" work it was refusing 4th. After their replacement it's refusing 1st and 2nd again occasionally. I have had the same thing in multiple cars, if the linkage is not aligned correctly with the box some gears can have issues. Chances are it will loosen up in time after the box settles again. There is nothing wrong with my gearbox. If there was, it would not be due to driving at 2,000rpm or using the clutch and syncros as intended. In fact if you turn the gear shift indicator on it will tell you to shift at 2,000rpm! It's not an American hunk of Detroit iron remember, it's a well engineered car.

Here you go... You'll see that as he is over 2,000rpm the little ^ light starts flashing pretty much as soon as he gets into each gear. He ignores it in 4th and when he shifts to 5th it tells him to get straight into 6th as he eases off. At what 2100rpm?
From experience it will have me up in 5th or even 6th at 30mph. That's about 1400rpm and the car is absolutely fine. At 1400rpm you can't use much accelerator or it will labour, but if you are holding speed on level road it's absolutely fine. In 1st you can roll along at 4mph at 1500rpm in 6th you can roll along at 30mph. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZ6F5mNgO8Q"]2013 BRZ Gear Indicator - YouTube[/ame]

![]() No, I have never turned on the feature that shows what gear the MT is in. I just seem to know what gear it is in by the sound of the engine and speed of the car. Except, occasionally, when I try to take off in 3rd gear, thinking I'm in 1st gear. My FR-S don't like to do that ..... ![]() humfrz |
