Yep, I hear that.

As I age, I find myself using the barter system more often.

I barter with my son-in-law. He is relatively young, works construction as a trade, is quite handy with tools and he is strong and agile.

So, I (we) watch his children during the week and he helps out with things around the house, like small construction (repair) jobs, cleaning the roof & gutters, moving heavy stuff, trucking stuff (with his PU), that needs to be trucked, etc.

For appliances? Definitely not. Appliances are huge and heavy and awkward, especially if you don't have the right moving equipment. $100 is well worth making it someone else's headache.

Yep. But for decades I moved them myself to save the fee. The delivery guys make it look so easy though.

I hear you! An appliance specific dolly is a must! I borrow one from my friend. The wide stance it has and the strap make it totally necessary. A regular dolly does not work the same at all! Especially for a refrigerator!

Yes that is true. Nothing "actually" goes through the door. The Door frame or door way is the "portal" that objects pass though.

Major Appliances actually weigh a lot less than they used to. Difference is, they are often much larger, as in current refrigerator designs...therefore more difficult to get through doorways.

Attached illustration is of one like my family used to own. Way smaller than current ones, yet weighed over 300#. Not fun when it had to be barged off an island along with 5 other major appliances, all newer, each of which weighed much less.
