The only upside from these 2.0 liters in my experience is MPG.
Have you ever driven a turbo diesel? I think that's the kind of engine you want. Luckily (IMO), seems like Toyota doesn't want this kind of engine in this car.
Even though turbo diesels have improved a lot, they don't give the same feeling as a N/A-free revving-low torque-petrol engine

^ I also want to know the weight!!! One of the most important figures for me...

I have, and soon as I got out of the twisties and onto the straight, I fell asleep. Going to need boost to tickle my fancy. Torque gives you the "put you back in the seat" feeling. Hence why I'm not that happy about the N/A 2.0L boxer. Never had been since the first mention of it's power plant.

What he was getting at though was from a daily driver standpoint. In order to feel any performance from the car, you are going to have to push in the high rpms to feel that inspiration. Doing that on the streets makes you look like a ricer running around reving his engine screaming how you have 8k or so rpms. Torque'er cars give you that performance inspiration without causing unwanted attention to yourself.

I understand what your saying, but the odd thing is at highway speeds, my car makes less noise than lower speeds. Between 4700-5000rpms she really smoothes out and doesn't come close to being as loud as any other car with an aftermarket exhaust. I sit right at the beginning of my powerband and the engine loves it. Makes passing other cars very easy. Below 4700rpms, its all exhaust note... Over 5300, the ITB's sing. But everyone one has their level of comfort needed. What your saying is a valid point I can admit, but some people love that work to push a car. Are you going faster, no... but some how in your mind you kinda feel like it. That's what makes a car sporty to me, that feeling it gives you.

Dont bite my head of... But yamaha said to have had a fair bit to do with the head design with the supra 1JZ-GTE and the 2JZ-GTE possibly as well as a few other bit and pieces... If yamaha r having a hand in this box 2litre i would hope its gonna be fun across the whole rpm range....

And if it gets a turbo strapped to it.... Hahaha cant wait to find out......

New GR series? It's good, but if Yamaha can help making the engine looks more pleasure to eyes.

Toyota announced force inductions and direct injection( Lexus has it for years), will make it way to Toyota's lineup. I'm hoping that Lexus vehicles will also receive force induction (for both fuel economy and performance).
Yamaha will probably help developing engine for Lexus cars, but I hope it's a V8. JMHO.

i guess what i'm going off is the K20Z3 out of the Civic Si. it's not a torque monster, but has 130+ lb ft across almost all of the rev range. it moves along just fine. also, with the FT being lighter, it requires less torque to move.

MR2 Spyders are quite light and when driving them, they never really seem to be bogged down at lower RPMs.

Why has nobody mentioned that in the press release it states the car is coming out in Europe with NO mention of America?
