Hmm, sound generators are already in a lot of cars. The new Mustang plays through the audio system, even when it's turned off, although, it may kill the fake BOV market. But that's a good thing

Saw 2 clean stock S2000's today driven by mature drivers. One probably 30+ and the other 50+
I generally always see s2000's either stock or tasteful modded. Like a nice exhaust or nice rims. I hope our cars have the same mature crowd following in the future and these cars are kept stock or tastefully modded. Cause right now....some of the things I see done to these cars makes me cry haha.

Even though I rebuild my 15 FRS I've kept it stock besides the headlights and badge, TRD spoiler. Well designed cars just need subtle modifcations

I like to think that in 30 years the GT86 will be seen the same way we appreciate the RA28 Celicas today. A fun rwd lightweight coupe with sharp styling from a bygone era.

The main thing I'd be keeping an eye out on is the likes of Kia or hyundai (possibly another manufacture) trying to semi-copy the exterior body style of the 86. To me, once other manufactures "copy" or clone the original that is a death sentence to the original. For example, look at how BMW and Lexus seem to go back and forth copying each other luxury models (tail lights, body lines, etc)... bad bad. Then when Lexus first came out with that black hour-glass grill back in 2014 or so (not its been copied by other manufactures). The only other two sports cars I'd ever \consider owning (due to their body lines, performance, etc) would be a Porsche 911 Carrera S , or GTS 2009+ (those are still about $48k+ used... still) , or a Nissan R34 (won't be possibly imported for another 9+ years) . Slight possibility for a E30 M3, but those have gone up in value a lot in the last 4-5 years. Mo $$$ , and/or Mo time ...... then a GT86 ![]()

Unfortunately, I see it as a split. Some will be treated like 240sxes, "dime a dozen" and a bunch will be bought cheap and become drift missiles. Others, will be appreciated by the people who realize the car's potential, and will be seen as a cheap quick alternative to whatever sports cars will be available.

I work in the bicycle industry, so components are always on my mind. Electric shifting = is heavier then mechanical. I am perfectly content with my 9spd or 10spd mechanical set ups. A 1x11 set up does have some benefits (lighter then 2x10 set up) , however the negatives are that you don't have a higher(big ring gear) gearing when pedaling down hill (fire-road, etc) , and much of the wear is concentrated on the one chain-ring (and chain). Sram pushed the envolope to a Mtn 1x12 set up, but again this falls in line with what you were saying about offering more gearing (more technology) without much of a significant performance benefit (over 1x11) . I also come from the perspective of I'd rather be riding mechanical set up over electric for two main reasons : 1. mechanical is less $$ (also less weight…..but $$ is more important)). 2. if you are stuck 10+miles away from civilizations, and something goes array with your electric shifting ( dead battery, etc) you're SOL. In a mechanical set up, bring one extra shift cable (weighs 2oz) in case you have a shift cable issue on the road (this can be swapped out on most bikes with in 5 minutes…. then rolling again…shifting sweet….. Speaking of shifting, the people here who bought manual transmissions did so on purpose( what ever those reason(s) are ) . The whole idea of 5-10+ years from now, all cars will be Autos, or auto driving, etc. Even if that is 90% the case , it will primarily be on econo (sub-compact/ compact) , vans, sedans…etc. In my eyes, a real sports car has got to be offered in manual gear box, period. |

I think this car is too good for the taste of ordinary drivers. It will take its place in the automotive history after the production ends in five years from now.

That's exactly what I mean...back in the mid 80's you couldn't give those away (at least, here in the States..), and now they're pretty much show cars. |

Talking with some older guys at a massive event that's going on this week geared towards classic, and with a buddy of mine who owns a 280Z, these are a few conclusions we've come across.
Most of these "classics" that are really cool looking and loved were *just* a car. Everybody had one. The BelAir, Model T, old Pickups, etc... most get scrapped, and the ones that remain become loved and people get nostalgia for it. The really bad ones fade out of existence (Mustang II comes to mind). The Z car was a very popular and well loved car - a single production year saw sales that dwarfed the entire production run of the FR-S (and even more so, the BRZ). Our first-run cars will start to disappear in about 10 years, and will be just as hard to find in 20 or 30 years, just like the Z. Also, a side note - the Ford Flex will be a cool car in 20, 30 years. Just watch. :P
