If my FRS got taken from me and I was left with a pile of money, an NA Miata would be in the top 3 for replacing it if I decided to stick with 2 doors.

The seats in the FR-S are just enough wider to be noticeable. The front seat spacing in the FR-S is further apart, especially at the shoulders (ya, I love mrs humfrz - I just don't want to touch her all day).
These two were most noticeable for me. Particularly the difference in width.

It had been a while since I rode in a Miata, but I got in someone's NA Miata last year and once I closed the door, my arm was wedged up against it. I remember thinking if something impacted the door, it would not bode well for my arm.

They're both small cars but the FR-S has noticeably more room inside. My wife feels claustrophobic in NA/NB Miatas when the top is down, but is fine in the FR-S.

Then again the small dimensions (and light weight) are what make the Miata so fun and agile.

I'd still rather have a ZZW30 with a 2ZZ swap. Lighter, more HP, and MR. If you're gonna ragtop it, ragtop it like a champ.

However, I had caught the "roadster fever" and being a long time Saturn owner, I ordered a Saturn Sky. Then after seeing one in person, I discovered it had no trunk ..... not good for touring, (mrs humfrz likes to change clothes every day .... ).

About that time the new Miata's (NC) hit the dealerships, so I went and took one for a test drive ........ that was it ...... it "fit" me perfectly.

So, I took it home and get my deposit back on the Sky.

We had 8 years and 88,000 miles of roadster fun .......

NO ....... my Miata was NOT WHITE ..........

I hope when I'm your age, I am half as awesome as you are.

All this talk about the MX-5, doesn't the Fiat Spyder get any love? Does the current availability of Brembos, stabilizer bars and wheels/tires make or break it? What about Fiats engine choice? And the difference in styling?

I'd never purchase a new Mazda because of the bs cheap way they handled sales people when I sold cars 26 years ago. I'm funny that way. They are the only brand I steer clear of. This is just my experience, aside from my family I wouldnt expect others to feel the same.

Still an unknown quantity. All the important stuff should be rock solid, chassis and suspension is Mazda and Fiats multiair engine has been on the road for over 7 years now, NC miata tranny and diff iirc.

The interior quality and durability, sales process, warranty and service are still question marks for potential Fiat buyers.

BTW I just read that the nose and trunk of the 124 Spider make it 5" longer overall than the MX-5 for a more classy look. The hood is 3" longer, the trunk 2" longer. Brembos are also available as an option (in Canada). The models are less expensive than the Mazda (though the options are grouped differently).

With all I have been through with my FR-S, especially the odyssey with the blown up supercharger, it would take a lot for me to give up my twin. Still, I want to take the Fiat for a road test (which I would never do if there was no chance I'd buy).

I heard someone say something similar to my co-worker about his running speed. His reply - "why are you worried about being fast at my age when you can't even keep up now"

I really feel this car should be the one we're comparing to the twins I feel it's a modern interpretation of the classic Italian coupe.

Welp, if that is your objective ....... I suggest that you make the transition between:

"faster horses, younger women, older whisky and more money"

TO

"old dogs, children and watermelon wine"

...... at an earlier age than I did ..........

Exactly why I got my FR-S. Almost completely comparable. New parts and bushings!

No ragtop, because rag.
