I do agree with you though I would rather pay more to have peace of mind but since I already settled my business elsewhere I guess I will just have to stick with it.
Then odds are they just pulled up a car they had already ordered in the system. Unless your "five minute" statement was actually off and it really was an hour or so and just felt like 5 minutes. I have no doubt that if a salesperson told me they had custom ordered me a car from the factory in 5 minutes and received a verification that it was all a go I would very politely get up and leave and never speak with them again.

Not sure if he ACTUALLY placed the order but he did print out a sheet and we speced the car out together so I saw everything he clicked. It's not like you had to wait for the verification, once he placed an order, the VON was attached to the completion page it looks like. Kind of like when you buy something on Amazon and you get an order number right away. And it was literally 5-10 minutes. But since I didn't get it, o well.

So we are back where we started. That would not be a VON just a confirmation that the request was made. The actual VON comes from the factory and does not happen that fast. All in all I think you are good so far and just have to be patient and wait for then to say "yep we are making YOUR car"

Maybe it is a VON from the factory which is just allocated in the order of whoever places the next order with their system. But I think you're right.

I'm just dragging out this discussion because I have nothing to do right now.

How come you didn't take the paper he printed out home with you or asked for a copy? At least a phone screenshot of the VON would've sufficed. That's what I had my dealer send me.

It is also very possible the VON they showed is internal to the dealer and not something from the factory at all. Sounds like it was a vehicle order worksheet that they filled out.

Based on the first four digits of your VON, it matches mine so yeah it's official.
