You jest but in reality back in the 70s to 90s they could not fill positions. Nobody was interested. Now there are waiting lists and there is no way you could pull that off no matter what your civilian qualifications may be (except possibly Doctors and such).

Nope, not at all. They take the guy with the most common composite score in the quarter (composite score combined is your physical fitness test, combat fitness test, range scores, PME's, and other stuff combined into one score) and once they have that number they make that the baseline for the next quarters promotions. So basically if you're in an MOS with shitty Marines, it's easier to get promoted as the average scores are lower per Marine. Also depends on the amount of marines in that specific field. Not entirely sure how that's affected though

It was the same here, but mostly driven by funding. So many positions were cut and so little money was available that a lot of our fighter squadrons were at less than 30% mission capable and that's just how it was.

Promotion in the USAF is based on the projected number of unfilled positions in the next rank in that career field. If there are 100 projected spaces and 400 people who are promotion eligible, they will promote 25%. Beyond that, it's based on how you compare to the other promotion eligible-personnel in your career field. If most people in your field are intelligent then it'll be a harder competition because everyone will score highly, but they still only promote the top 25%.

Well at least all 5 of our aircraft were mission ready 40% of the time back then.

I'm in the Australian Airforce. currently on my 3rd deployment to the middle east. I joined at the end of 2009 at the age of 20 and have been overseas in one way or another atleast once every year.

I worked under ISAF on my last deployment to Kandahar in Afghanistan so I am pretty familiar with the USAF.

on this deployment I do a lot of fly away missions kind of like the USAF FAST teams I think? I hit the gym with some US Army guys. Those guys have it tough. Bad food and bad accommodation so I take them to my camp for lunch as much as possible. in exchange for Rip its

Not 100% correct there. There are a few programs that will bring you in without a degree or will basically get you the degree if you need it.

No degree: LDO/CWO route
Helps get the degree: STA-21, MECP, or selection to service academy from enlisted ranks.

Lemme rephrase. To be a COMMISSIONED officer you need a bachelors. And yeah there's plenty of programs to help get a commission for hard charging mothers lol
