I'd be more interested in a larger panel airbox/reuseable filter setup.. Not a big fan of cone filters..

I'm sure there will be drop in filters available too. A properly designed intake with a cone filter will out-flow a panel filter by a large margin though, plus the added media gives you more dirt holding capacity. An aftermarket drop in filter is going to use the same media as a cone filter too, so it's really just a difference in the geometry of the filter.

Friday went VERY well, and Matt has been running the prototype over the weekend and gave us some great input. Hopefully he will chime in with his feedback soon.

Not many of you guys might know about that Romer arm they are using, but that things is so seriously baller you can't believe.
The one we have is less than half that size and we have to rent the use of one that big. Using a 3D digitizer like that is on par with the tools of OEMs and Hollywood.

Loving it so far.
Decided to run with no sound tube, and I prefer it this way. The Airaid intake sounds and performs excellently. My favorite part is when I have to give the throttle a big blip to rev-match a 6th-down-to-4th gear change, it barks quite nicely. And once Im already up past 5Krpm after that downshift, it just makes sense to keep the throttle pinned all the way to the redline, which is where this intake sounds the best, IMO. Since Im already way past the break in point on this engine I can churn it all the way up to the rev limit and thank god for that. This car just isnt fun to drive if you arent giving it 80+%.

For those of you who may be more... responsible than I am, the intake is quiet/normal cruising around under 4Krpms, under 50% engine load.

As far as looks go, even for a prototype its photogenic. Airaid makes their intakes out of OEM-appearing deep black plastics, which is what I love. Id rather not have some polished aluminum piping sticking out like an eye sore in my otherwise black engine bay.

Thanks for the props. We obviously take what we do seriously, and the owner is not afraid to invest in equipment to keep us at the top of the game. It makes it nice for us designers/engineers.

Thats Rotomolded plastic, absorbs less heat and is also more costly to make than "metal tube". Sounds good and looks clean- won't corrode either.

You have a good gig then
I had not heard of you guys in any import cars so I had a friend in the industry fill me in: "Started by a guy who wanted to make a good product, a real car guy. He invested heavy in the equipment to do the job right". That piques my interest because in general there is heavy competition in the muscle car world and I see companies hustle like mad to be on top. Thats good!

May I make a suggestion? I like your AIRRAID logo molded into the tube and not on the big plaque or sticker I have also seen. Despite our reputation, the Jap car crowd has grown up, and prefers things clean these days ; )

Thanks for getting involved! I hope there will be more technical data posted soon; intake replacement on low HP subarus are usually only for sound benefits.

Rotomolding also allows the designer to make complex shapes that you can't do with off the shelf materials. It does require some up front costs to make the molds, but it's well worth it to get parts that fit like a glove and look like they belong in the engine bay.

...and they do just that, plain and simple. Love the Airaid system in my full size GM p/u. Confident the Airaid BRZ intake will be the one I will get!

This is no joke. When I saw the picture I almost thought it HAD to be something else. Definitely a high quality design from the start. Can't wait to see the final product.

Good luck with the development.

Okay, we FINALLY sent tooling files out today to get the molds made. I'm guessing about 8 weeks to machine the tooling, then we need to approve the parts and release them for production. For now here is a preliminary dyno chart just to show that we are making power and that the AFR is in line. The solid line is stock and the dashed line is our prototype. We should be good for 5-7 hp and 3-4 ft/lbs with the production parts.
