Help with Tire Size for Pilot SS
Hey guys,
I'm going to be ordering my new tires either by today or tomorrow at the latest and really need help with tire size for the front wheels. I'm going with Gramlight 57xtremes and have never purchased tires let alone changed rims in my life. I'd like to know which would be the best size for 18x8.5 wheels with a +33 offset for the front... 225/40/18 or 235/40/18? These will be the Michelin Pilot Super Sport if that makes any difference, and I plan on having the back wheels at 255/35/18. Also a heads up to anyone looking for these tires, if you have a Costco membership they're on sale for cheap. Obviously size will change the price but the ones I was looking at were 162.50 per tire with an additional 70 dollars off if you buy an entire set. Thanks in advanced for the advice. |

You should mention all the details.
With what info you mentioned, I would say 235/40. |

I'll be giving the car a 1" drop with Swift Sport Mach Springs, everything else will be stock besides the rims, springs, and tires. Also I don't take my car to the track, it'll just be a daily driver in dry desert weather.

Go with 245/35/18 all around. A staggered setup will create more understeer. Plus you will have the ability to rotate tires with a square set up. 245/35/18 won't throw your speedo off as much as the other sizes you listed.

What are the cons to understeer? Isn't it safer than oversteer on a RWD car?

The car was designed to run the same size wheels/tires front and back and even with most lowering springs will understeer. Buying different size front/rear from stock should only be done for looks unless you're significantly altering the car's setup. |

Ok, so with that in mind... Is the general consensus that 235/40/18 is better than 225/40/18 for 18x8.5 +33 wheels?

225/40/18 will be a little stretched on an 8.5 but not too bad. 235 would be a better match.

235 or 245's.
Also why are you getting the Michelin PSS? There are way better tires for a lot less besides the PSS.

I'm running 235 square with a 1" drop on 18" +33 8.5". I had rubbing issues in the front on the top insides during a track weekend but that was closer to a 1.5+ drop
You could get 245s sq but that's closer to the upper limit. The rear can handle no issues. Both will be pretty close to rubbing the fender if you go crazy low. On 235 you'll be safer. |

I run a 225/40/18 on 18x8.5 +42 offset. The wheel sticks out a little of the tire, which is too much for my taste, so if you want to go that route you can.
Also, sorry to hijack this thread, but question. Would it be alright to run 235/40/18 on my wheels without any rubbing issue in the front on stock suspension? Looking to buy new tires so it's a question i'm debating.

Exactly. And scrimping on tires is possibly the worst place to do it.
