Well this whole relationship seemed to go to shit quick. None of these turbo kit making companies stock tons of turbos from Garrett or Precision. I would venture to guess that most will drop ship them from Garrett or another company except in the instance where there is some special assembly or modifications to a housing to work with the kit. I know my GT2817R from Full Blown came in two separate shipments, and I had to assemble the two sides myself which was a first. It sucks that you went with a Precision turbo and that the repair process will take that long, but I would still go with the GTX upgrade, get a rental car, and never make the mistake of buying another Precision turbo.

I guess I can add my own JDL story to the thread. I ordered both my overpipe and frontpipe from JDL on their website. I remember it taking longer than I expected for them to arrive only to find that the bracket for the tranny mount was clearly not in the correct location during my turbo kit install. They asked for pics to verify, so I took these:

Quote:
Curtis came over again so we decided to install my JDL 2.5" overpipe and uppipe to the FBM downpipe and stock exhaust. The install went well as we were able to get enough subframe clearance on the overpipe. The only issue was the OEM transmission to uppipe bracket did not line up. Later in the week, I fabbed up my own bracket and now everything fits with great clearance. The pipes came with gaskets, but no hardware to mount which was a little disappointing so this took another parts run that I made earlier in the day.

I believe they were willing to take back this pipe and ship me another one, but like you, I didn't want to not be able to drive my freshly turboed BRZ even though I do have a daily driver truck. I decided to instead remake the transmission bracket which I enjoyed even with my limited fabrication skills.

yeah i'm not really seeing where JDL did you wrong, it looks like you weren't clear on your very strict requirements and JDL was operating to get you the turbo as soon as they could while serving other customers.

it just goes to show how much can be lost in text/email conversation vs a verbal conversation where tone and inflection can convey so much more information. My suggestion to anyone, if you have something that is this urgent and requires special attention, CALL THE COMPANY IN QUESTION. You'll get much further along than with emails.

Well I think it's clear in the email conversation above(post #9) where I say I'm ready to buy now if this could get to me in time. Where I also stated this time had been made clear to them(Saturday). I think it's simple, first they say yeah it'll be there, then no. The sad part is that I found out about the "no" after contacting them once more. I don't see why people fail to see the lie here. Again, time after time, what Jesse wrote is not what I was told by the other rep, come on people. It's ok to like JDL, I did but it's pretty darn clear. It's also no my problem if they can't communicate via email, other companies can. I'm sure many would prefer a voice call but with the time difference between this particular vendor and me and my work schedule, I had no choice.

Feel better realizing I'm not the only one they screwed over, although I already knew this trough the countless times I found myself waiting more and more because of their miscommunication.

yeah i read your post above, and nowhere do you state that you absolutely need it be Saturday. Just because you previously mentioned it doesn't mean the person you get to deal with, (who probably reads hundreds of communications a day so its quite unrealistic of you to expect them to remember every little detail in multiple conversation threads) will remember. if it was truly that important then you should of made a phone call.

at this point all i see is JDL has done everything they can to get you the part you ordered as fast as possible, while eating some extra cost in said order to again get it to you faster and you've made a post to put them on blast.

Also, they didn't "screw over" king tut, there was a fabrication mistake made on his, they offered to replace it, he denied and resolved the issue himself.

You got it, I never told them anything about when I needed my parts I just hinted I needed it by that time and expected them to guess and now I'm making a huge deal about the fact they lied to me. You got me, so now I'm part less, car less and bored so I came here to do this even though I don't habitually do so. Maybe this makes more sense to you. Also this isn't for you to see or understand a damn thing so stop looking.

you posted it on a public board, therefore its for everyone to see. Also, I don't really see where they lied to you other than not getting back to you an hour later on monday. i'm sorry that your car is down but that's the risk you take when you modify the car to the extend that you have.

take this as an opportunity to learn some patience, humility and improve on your own communication skills.

Next time just call Jesus OP. Lots of lessons learned here and thanks for sharing. I get the whole miscommunication thing but for it being around a holiday and so forth I thought JDL nearly performed the miracle asked of them going by what is said here. It's your money in the end, and they (JDL) didn't MAKE you spend it.

Yomny,
It would be about a week before we can ship it. We would have to get the housing coated. We have everything else in stock at the shop.

Everything else meaning the housing IS NOT in stock. Your answer was right there.
Miscommunication on both sides.
Pretty sure you would have gotten the order by 7/11 if you weren't so impatient.
They are in the business to make sales/support and they cannot guarantee any delivery times when other parties are involved.

You have to look at it from the businesses perspective.
Will I(you) get it by 7/11?
guy 1 is positive and believes it can get there, as it can make it: (probably) Yes
guy 2 is safety guy and doesn't want make promises he is not sure about : (probably) No

Most people don't want a long winded answer that ends up being, I'm not sure. But probably yes/no

You're right and I appreciate you taking both perspectives. I should have done a million things differently but honestly speaking I personally don't think as the customer need to go through all the trouble and skepticism, verification and confirmations. I'll take my money else where. Once more this isn't my only issue with them but it's defensively the last. You mentioned this earlier and maybe I should ask if they could have it by a numbered date, and more exact answers but I wasn't trying to get a confession out of them, didn't think it was necessary.

Regardless when I told them I thought I was getting this by the weekend, the same way he could have said I was, as Jesse mentioned. I'm replying because I know this feedback is going to help me and them understand what could have been done differently but this bridge is burned. Just like I know many here will disagree with anything I say but I'm sure many agree. Only thing is no one really likes to get on the ugly side of someone they're dealing. Once more my point is not to stop them from getting business but for others to do just as you mentioned to avoid what happened to me. Cheers mate!
