If you didn't get your FT86 fix last night, come on out to today's MCO autocross and see if the twins can dominate the rest of the field.

Spectators always welcome -- Canadian Tire Place, Lot 9, starts running at about 10:00, break for lunch, runs continue until about 3:30.

Look up myself or Kenny or others and we'll be glad to take you for a ride if you want, it's more fun from inside the car!

I'm currently "scratching my head",

I've been Googling speakers for the past 30 minutes, going through Speaker Brand sites, and its proving to be a task and a half to find speaker replacements ( mind you I am only window shopping for the time being ) But even the Brand web sites I have viewed so far, are limited and hard to navigate to specifics..

Is it just me or have others had problems?

I am not interested in the OEM audio kit available, I figure building a system myself would save some money, though I am not trying to skip out on quality, the manufacturer did that for me. I have to say,I find the stock sound system is crappy.. the passenger door speaker as soon as a slight hit of bass hits it, farts and stinks up the music that's playing.

Seems you need anything else for the car, bam you have it at ease..

So, How many of you have done a full speaker swap? possibly head unit - GIVE ME NAV -.

- Been a while, hope to see all of you at a meet in the near future.

Maybe it's just me but I don't find the stock system that bad. No problems rolling at 120 on the highway for an hour with the windows down and music up

Don't think many have changed the speakers. The car is made as a cheap sports car luxury sound was not a priority for the car or most of the buyers I would think.

Audio

@Ft86Chris

I don't know much about car audio or our systems
But I will be swapping out the stock base hu for an older but still awesome Clarion NX501 hu that has bt iPod-style touch swiping interface and built in nav
I also have two alpine 8" woofers to go in the custom rear dual trunk enclosures and a JL 500/5 amp. I have my old infinity 6022i from two-ways for the doors and some ban-tan(?) 1-1/2 or 2" tweeters for the front uppers. I'll disconnect the rear stock ones and take them out.

So it won't get done by Carlisle but hopefully by Importfest in late Aug.
I'll have some help from my friend who does custom installs (he's a former IASCA judge and competitor).

If you find replacement door speakers you like but they don't fit 100% diameter-wise, tell me and we can print up some adapter rings in ABS plastic like the plugs.

I'll try to document my build but there is good info in this forum you should review first IMO.

I'm down for this Friday meet!!! Withdrawals....

Excellent! thanks Ken.

I did not buy the vehicle for audio, I knew well in advanced the things that would not be as well developed.

Though I daily drive my FR-S and have a decent commute to work, I like my music loud, and i find the stock system is not doing as well as I would like.

I knew it was not the best from the start, and have done a few audio installs over the years. Would just be nice to find some replacements, add an amp.. I am not sure about sub woofers at this time, depending on the out put of a decent set of speakers with an amp,

I am not big on bass music as I used to be, occasionally sure, I am more of a blues, classic rock, folk and country guy. I love metal music, punk etc as well.. I love when I have an audio system and you can really feel the bass drum kick and it sounds great, i find the stock system lacks in many different areas, but thats just me. again I know that was not what the vehicle was built for, but we all have our own different wants and needs.

Maybe all it needs is a good amp, for some cleaner sound when the volume is turned up. My max volume is "45", anything above that isn't worth listening to, but sometimes I still need it louder (I drive windows down alot)

Come to think of it, maybe the BRZ head unit makes a difference from the base FRS one. My only complaint about the sound system is that the rear speakers are so small.
But weight savings

I find my sound system to be pretty decent too and can easily get too loud. The BRZ has the pioneer hu with the 2 door speakers, 2 uptop with tweaters and the 2 rear speakers. I think its different in the frs at least hu wise.

I don't think I've ever gone beyond 30/35 max volume on the highway with the windows down. Maybe it's my young ears eh? Haha. From the reading I've don on the other threads about HUs, most are just switching out the HU and are fine with the stock speakers. Seems the biggest upgrade for our audio seem to be the amp or pre-amp (dunno how ours is set up) that's in the HU. Personally I'm looking at maybe getting the Ca-Fi Dashlinq stuff later on, but apparently there may be a newer version coming out. Have to wait and see. I just want Waze on my infotainment. :P
