Also how the Maps App on this thing. I heard you can use Google Maps? But how does that work without internet connection. Does this allow you to tether to your iPhone via USB or Wifi?
For me the Pioneer are way too expensive. You don't even get capacitive touch until you get over $800 last I checked.
If you want lag free look elsewhere. This is a single core at 1 Ghz. The performance is less around what a flagship phone was in 2010. I compare it to MyTouch 4g from back when froyo was the flavor of Android.
That being said it is a decent unit and leaps better than anything else I have seen in person.
This unit supports a USB modem or you can use your phone's Wi-Fi hotspot. You can download offline maps in Google maps or use one of the apps that doesn't require network.
Personally I just always tether and use Waze.

Thanks , So USB tethering is an option then. Thats great , I will mostly have my phone. But apart from that , does it have any inbuilt NAV? Since I dont have good signal when am outside any major metros (Tmobile ).

Also does Waze allow you to download the entire USA maps?

USB modem is option. If you want to use phone you most broadcast a hotspot.
I use Waze online for traffic based routing.
Sygic seems to be the preferred option for offlinebut is not free. I tried but didn't like it.
When my tethering was broken I would download offline maps of my area in Google maps.

Has anyone had issues with extreme static or audio drop-outs? I was having audio drop-outs that seemed to coincide with bumps, so I assumed my connections came loose. (Probably unrelated, my rear camera also stopped working.

So I took out the unit to check all the connections. Nothing seemed loose, but i reconnected everything. When I turned on the car, I got good sound for about 15 seconds, then no audio (and still no rear-camera). If I turn up the volume I can hear intermittent static using USB and the radio app even when still, so its not a loose connection (well I doubt it is). I'm starting to think its something inside the unit.

Anyone have ideas before I put the stock HU back in for testing?

I had issues like that for a while. Tapping the screen with a bit of force did the same thing. It eventually sorted itself out.

Awesome - I got out my old HU and for some reason the SD Card was gone. Hooked it up anyway (thinking it might just be for maps) and it won't even get past the Initial screen. Anyone have an image they would be willing to share?

The stock BRZ Head unit may have an antitheft feature on it. But I could be mistaken. Maybe it's still covered under factory warranty? There's SD images on this forum elsewhere, you'll have to search for it.

Image will not work. Files in the card are encrypted with card ID. Unfortunately, there is no way to use it without original SD card (SD will work from other models, including Toyota cars, using same type Fujitsu head-unit).

Thanks for this! I'm still on the 9/21 rooted firmware. Wouldn't be interested in this radio if it wasn't for root...

I can't test the firmware, will be busy. Hopefully someone else can chime in?

Anyone else notice the website pricing is down to $429? Is this normal or because they're out of stock??

I will mainly be using the headunit to listen to Pandora while Waze runs in the foreground. Based on what i have read, that should work just fine. However, does this also work with FM radio and waze/ google maps audio? Or is the FM function an application that exists outside of the standard android system? I hope that makes sense.

Far as I'm aware the radio should act like any audio/music source in android so shouldn't be affected by whether or not it's the active screen. Meaning you can activate the radio, switch to Waze and still have it playing in the background. Same goes for most other music apps. Unless the new app you're running takes over the active audio source (like some games do; IE trials fusion), you'll be fine.
