The thing is while yes, the RX-7 FC and FD are both wonderful performing cars, believe me I know <3 FDs, as are most cars that you will bring up. But again, only a minority of the owners bought them for performance reasons, a lot of people bought them because it's the cool vehicle to have or because they thought they were poon magnets. I still see bone stock RX-7's come on the market that have not been driven spirited. Again, I'm talking performance in the sense that we here think of it. If you really want to break it down in the largest of possibilities then I will concede that probably about 25% of buyers care. But in reality, most BMW, Porsche, Lamo, drivers are doing it for three reasons. Label(think people that MUST buy apple products), attractiveness(look at me factor), and status symbols. Again, please provide me statistics to other countries so we can see what the median income of each country is, how many licensed drivers there are in your country, and what percent you think actually cares about TRUE performance. |

I think I can come up with two reasons why most consider Scion worthless, wthout even mentioning tanner or the tC.
I believe these two pics sum it up nicely ![]() ![]() That is all. |

I am quick to disparage the xD as an ugly, metro-centric, econ-box, but I don't see how someone turning them into rally cars makes the brand "pointless." These are purpose built rally cars. Duplessis knows a thing or two about rallying and building rally cars, so he obviously thinks the car will be competitive in its class. Would I want one? Nope...I'd rather do this, just because I like the look of the exterior more. ![]() I'm sure you will write all sorts of glowing/awesome things about the R2/O'neil/Ford effort, while bashing 0-60/Scion's, but the fact remains: Both the xD and the Fiesta are purpose built for rallying and neither exclusively uses OEM/OTS parts. Though these xDs are more "off the showroom floor" than this Fiesta.

" By adding a raft of new parts (pistons, camshafts, injectors, air filter, etc.), the Fiesta R2 is capable of producing 168 horsepower and 134 pound-feet of torque – gains of 48 and 22 over the stock car, respectively."
~$10,000 for a 48hp gain? I'm assuming these are now Turbo Ready internals. I'd fucking hope so anyways lol Beyond the slew of suspension, brake, exhaust mods done, it seems a little more expensive than I thought it would be. |

The Fiesta is about $15K so for $25K you have a very good starting point for a decent rally car (you will still need wheels, tires and a few other rally essentials)...figure $30K gets you out onto the narrow dirt roads at speed.

![]() Sure, if you want very nice, quick, street car. Good luck getting into a Rally America or SCCA Pro Rally event. $25K for a brand new, competition ready race car (I don't care what type of racing) is a smokin' deal.

EDIT :: wow, I missed the 1 infront of the 19,995 tag.. and thats british pounds I think. I have no idea what the conversion is but I'm pretty damn sure thats expensive. I bolded the price I thought, vs the price StinkyPete quoted. 2nd EDIT :: And I have no idea how accurate StinkyPete's price quote is and if it includes installation. It seems official but I can't put any faith in it. For now its the only price figure I could find.

So $35K gets you into a competition ready car. Still not bad.

The R2 fiesta, is done right. the 0-60 xD, pure poser-ness. It is made to look like one of Toyota's old rally cars, plus a roll cage and some tarmac tyres, with neigh any improvement bar some coilovers. It also has never been raced, and likely never will be. I'm sure some of the money that goes toward marketing those douchey "underground" events could go towards putting in some wrench time on the xD, making a worthwhile power, chassis and better suspension upgrade, and campaigning it at even say the X games or some form of grassroots motorsport event. That's my point. Simple as that. The Fiesta doesn't get a 100% pass either, It should have had a snail, and awd. That however, is another post for another thread. |
