My wife will be keeping the RAV4 for when our future kids and the two of us will need to ride together. The ONLY time I was planning on a rear facing seat was when it was just me and the potential kiddo. Can a rear facing child seat not fit in the car with the passenger seat all the way forward and tilted in the highest lockable position? If not, I will be getting custom seat rails fitted for this purpose unless there is some other safety concern. I will take yoga lessons if need be to deal with the awkward bending it will take to safely secure a child in there.

A forward facing seat won't provide safety for an infant in a crash according to people that know more than me about that kind of thing. You are supposed to wait until the little larva are a few years old until they are front facing.

Well, two years old on average. Weight and Height are factors. After reading this article about child seats , I am starting to think that figuring out proper performance suspension mods might actually be simple compared to some of my concerns.

Eventually we need to start a thread with car seat compatibility. So far, rear facing seats are a no-go, at least when there is a passenger.

I've seen a few pictures with installed seats, but no info on what brand of seat.

I'm not planning on buying my 86 until next year, but my 3 year old is about to graduate to a harness booster, and I don't want to drop $250+ on a Brittax until I know it's going to fit in my future vehicle.

So, what fits so far?

Crazy: Remove rear seats and bolt in a youth race seat.

Make it a 2nd or 3rd car

I'm keeping my truck and TL for my boy. He doesn't need rear facing anymore. But our issue is that I have to kick the TL out of the garage, which is where my wife parks. Or make room for the BRZ too. The BRZ is not family friendly.

Stroller anyone?? We need a picture with a stroller in the trunk.

There are strollers and then there are big, honkin' strollers. An umbrella stroller would not be any problem. What size are you talking about?

Ok I'll bite.

Quick note for seats. Infant/baby seats, the tiny ones for 0-6 months, that click into a base and you can carry your sleeping baby in the house. Those will not fit in this car with a passenger, and you'd be mad to try. But they make life SO MUCH EASIER. Plus you're going to have bags, and strollers (anything bigger than an umbrella stroller isn't going in the trunk).

Some states are pushing to keep rear facing for TWO years. Usually it's around 20 lbs and a certain height (for the seat), and at least ONE year. I flipped the girl at just under 2 and the boy is 18 months and will be forward when the car arrives.

Most forward facing seats SHOULD fit in the back. The problem with the 911 is the base/bottom is so curved/plastic formed that you need a really narrow base to fit. So there's very few seats that get in there (the Porsche OEM one, the Sunshine Kids Radian 80, and one of the Recaro seats in the USA (not legal in Canada).

But the FRS has a much flatter bottom, so again - for forward facing I think virtually most will fit. They have wide LATCH spacing as well.

I'm 5'7" with 29.5" inseam and in the pic above, I'm 1 click closer to the pedals that I would be by myself. Still totally comfortable. But not much room to spare - 2 clicks back and I'm on her legs.

I have a 2nd car so the kids won't be back there for huge amounts of time. There's also not much to see out the window either.

Every child grows differently so the year-age limitation is somewhat for reference. If your child out-grows the weight/length limits, no matter which age they are, they would need a bigger seat. Otherwise they would be very uncomfortable to squeeze in the seat (leg kicking the back window for a rear facing seat).

As many said to fit the rear facing you need to adjust the front passenger seat. How to fit that in is really depends on the try-n-error thing so no definitive answer here. For the front facing you need to watch the angle of the child seat and the rear seat. The rear seat at FRS/BRZ is somewhat in a strange angle so the front edge of the child seat (forward facing) may exceed the edge of the rear seat (as shown in the picture above). You need to try it again to see if it fit. Lastly, a booster seat with no back support is going to fit nicely. However you still need to adjust the front seat properly so that you do not crush their legs when you adjust the seat.

My biggest complain is that there is no quick-release of all the front seats. That is the big mistake when they design this new seat. There would be no easy exit from the back as one has to pull the slider level *at the front* of the front seat to slide it. That is bad. (even the tC has this quick release...)

I have this..

and this is showing up in July in time for the baby on my company lease...

Once the kiddo is big enough for a front facing car seat, we'll sell the MINI for an FR-S. We'll have 2 cars that fit the family and the fun car that won't be asked to do family duty. I didn't see any other way around it. As a family we'll drive the Prius everywhere anyway, so the FR-S will be for my commuter/fun car and when it is just me and the kiddo.

Thanks for the great kids pics. With the stroller I was just wondering about an umbrella, but I'd a BOB would fit, with the wheels off, that would be great. Really, there is no tilt slide leaver to get the passenger out from the back?

Nope. From the rear you can only get the tilt level to move the back forward but you cannot slide it. To slide the front seat you need to use the regular level under the front of the front seat to slide.

Having say that, the might be an enough opening with just moving the back of the front seat. However that does not look too pretty.
