I got the BRZ just so that I wouldn't have to own a Scion. No offense intended to FRS owners, I've just never liked the Scion brand and never felt they had a good reputation.
I've got to agree with you, for the most part. I got the FRS mainly because I didn't think the extra $3,000 (I got a really good deal on the FRS) the Subie dealership was asking for the BRZ was worth it for a few minor interior upgrades (push-to-start would be sweet though). I also like the front end of the FRS MUCH better than its twin... it looks more sleek and aggressive to me.

Being a huge fan of Toyota and coming from a family that has owned Tundras, 4Runners, Solaras () and a few Lexus SUVs, I wanted to stick with the brand when looking for a cool commuter car. I HATED the fact that the car came with the Scion name. I don't consider myself part of their target demographic at all, but I still really wanted a fun-to-drive, sexy-as-hell sports car from Toyota to get me to and from work with decent MPG's so I bit the bullet, bought the FRS and popped off those Scion badges as soon as humanly possible (except for that pesky boot image splash screen on the HU).

I cringe every time I drive next to an xB because I know that's the car most people think of when they hear the name Scion and I feel like the FRS loses some credibility in people's minds right off the bat because of it. When I think of Toyota sports cars, I think of Supras, Celicas... cool cars with a proud history. When I think of Scion, I think of the xB and tC... slightly girly cars that will let you customize what color underglow you want.

As my uninformed buddy once told me when seeing my car for the first time, "I looked into getting one of these when I was looking for a new car, but I couldn't ever find the Toyota version, only the Scion." I know that the only thing that makes my Toyobaru a Scion are the badges so I got rid of them. I'm more proud of the fact that its heritage is part Toyota, so those are the badges that I choose to display. At the end of the day, it doesn't come down to insecurity, just personal preference.

It's a Toyota. Or a Subaru.

"Scion" to me is nothing but an ill-conceived and slowly dying marketing failure by Toyota.

Damn it Koa! Now the Scion logo looks like a tribal tattoo to me.
Apparently I am more impressionable then I thought.

I don't mind the Scion badges ( I think they look much better than the Toyota sombrero)
I hate what Scion represents and the name is LAME FR hyphen S
GT 86 was taken by the rest of the world. So how about FT86?
That's what I'd call it.
Mine is Firestorm Red so Fuc*n Red - Sports car. will have to do.

All the BRZ owners are going to come piling in here to either a) try and swing at why they're superior or b) laugh at those who take the 5 minutes to get their see-yoon badge off and heat-gun on some cowboy hats.

I have never liked the Subaru logo. It is just too busy for my taste. And I have no idea what Subaru as a company has to do with Australia!

When I first got my bugeye, a few people would come up to it and be like, "did you get that imported from australia?!" or "wow.. why an aussie car if your just gunna add a ricer aftermarket hood scoop and loud exhaust?"

This wasn't that long ago (5 years or so).

loool

I'm looking into rebadging to the Japanese 'Toyota' logo for my emblem, but I chose Scion first was because it didn't match any other Scions out there. Every time I see a Scion 'this or that', I chuckle to myself because of the drastic difference the FR-S brings to the Scion community. Mostly it sticks out like a sore thumb, a smexy sore thumb.

Ya, like their design team was stumped for an idea and some guy piped up "Hey guys (in Japanese) I just came back from Australia and they have the coolest flag!)
