Dealers only getting 7 cars total this year?
I just got off the phone with one of my local dealers (trying to get my hands on an abandoned pre-order) and he was telling me that, regardless of total allocation, most dealers are only getting 7 cars this year. Then, another 12 cars in 2013. Which means, for people like me (#26/35 at my dealer) there's a chance that I won't see my BRZ until late 2013, maybe 2014.
Has anyone else heard anything similar to this? |

Is he offering to sell you this car that was "abandoned"?

Yes/no. His dealership didn't do pre-orders at all (Putnam Subaru, Burlingame, CA), and he's getting one car on 5/29. Silver, Premium, 6MT. He flat out told me they're asking $3200 over MSRP, and they have multiple people interested in it, First come, first served. He didn't really try and sell me on it, just mentioned it off hand as I was talking to him.

sounds like a reason to make people pay an extra $3200 IMO...there isnt going to be many cars, but if you really want one it'll be out there somewhere. luckily im 3 of 10 at my dealers so either way i should be good to go!

OP, if you don't mind the drive to SoCal, I might be backing out of either the FRS or BRZ. I have one preordered at Irvine Subaru (Limited SWP MT), and one at Toyota of Pasadena (DGM MT). Trojan_SC already has dibs on the BRZ, but you might be able to get your hands on it, cuz I think he's going the FRS route at ?Carson? Check our SoCal Group Buy thread for updates later on.

There is no way that dealers are just getting 7 total. The dealer I ordered from is getting about that many in their first shipment.

What he told you is absolutely NOT TRUE. His off-hand mention of their overpriced example was the entire purpose of the lie above.
