So we have enough information and data gathered on this thread on how the twins handle in snow. What about driving in icy conditions with the twins?

good winter tires, no sandbags.

Once you get some decent traction, you don't want to mess up the weight balance with the sandbags. You won't need it.

I bought my FR-S in november and the first snowfall hit in the middle of the week just before I got my winters on there.

It was almost undriveable, i would fish tail at the slightest blip of the throttle.

Fast forward to having winter tires and it is a pleasure to drive. Obviously you cant drive it like you would in the summer, but honestly it is easily the most competent car I have driven in the winter.

In really bad snow even if the tail slides out, it is SO damn easy to get back in line its a joke really.

TL DR : WINTER TIRES ARE A MUST!

Pretty sure that after this last week I have driven in every possible snow/ice/slush combo there is and as Kpamir just said I don't think I could be happier. The damn thing is so predictable that I know exactly when it starts to lose grip and can act accordingly.
Was worried about being lowered but have plowed through deep snow several times now and had nary a worry.

IN addition to @kpamir and @Tcoat after driving the FRS in some slippery snow, and now driving my work truck, the FRS is far more manageable. I think it's probably better than my old 626 as well.

I'm not going to say Georgians can compete with folks with real experience in snow but I'm also going to say it wasn't all their (our) fault.

The problem wasn't the snow, it was the marginal freezing temp at the beginning, then the almost immediate freeze, and it all hitting in the middle of the day when everyone was at work.

What we ended up with within 30 minutes of it starting was snow, ice, snow. It was difficult to just walk on. Of course, everyone has either summer or at best all-season tires and everyone left at exactly the same time onto untreated roads, with unprepared cars, at the exact wrong time.

I made the mistake of driving my FR-S that morning (complete with the "Prius" tires) thinking I would get home before it started. The forecast changed. I made it about two miles from the office and was doing OK (AT in manual, a little trouble on hills) but folks were sliding all around me. I turned around (I have a 40 mile commute) found a friendly driveway (some kids who I honestly think believed I was a narc when I knocked on the door because they were smoking weed and I was in a suit for meetings that day) offered some pizza money to leave my car there, and walked back to my office for the night.

Next day about 3:00pm when the weather returned to normal, the roads were empty and everything was slush, I got home with no issues and only about 15 minutes extra time.

In the end though, I still take blame for it as I said last winter. Be careful guys, if you have an AT, don't look down on a cold winter day, see the SNOW button and wonder "Hmmm, wonder what that does".

So see in the end it was really my fault.

I fully appreciate the hows and whys that caused it too happened but that does not diminish the humour value for me!
We can have a heavier frost then what fell there.
Anyway how often do we Canadians get to gloat?

Haha love the snow smile your car has going.

Those pics were actually from last year. We haven't gotten that much snow by me this year yet. I know our winters are nothing compared to yours.

Never really noticed the smile before! It does seem to enjoy the snow.
Sort of handy with a 3 1/2 inch clearance car in a foot of snow since I can check for leaks and see that every thing is lined up just by my tracks in the snow

Shit now when I look at that pic it looks like my car is winking at me!!!!
