When I was a teenager into my early 20's I drove through about 3-4 winters on bfgoodrich g-force kdw 2's with my SRT-4. Now that is what you call ice skating lol. Driving through winter on summer tires is never a good idea. I now use my SRT when it snows with a set of 15" wheels and 205 Firestone winter forces and I can through anything. I live in Georgia. so I don't need snow tires. I can just stay home for a day or 2 every 3-4 years.

I've got these and I like 'em as long as it stays cold, my drive to work is like a WRC stage when there's ice or snow but they definitely get marshmallowey if it's sunny and dry. I'll check out the siping thing, that might help.

I did a lot of research in the fall and ended up choosing Blizzak LM-32s because where I live there's a LOT more cold/dry/rain than actual snow/ice. Drove them this morning and they seemed grippier than my old A/S tires from last winter - especially braking. Didn't really push it though as today was the first snow we've had this season.

here's the problem. it was ice not snow and everyone in the city left at the same time. literally. that number of people trying to flee the city in perfect weather is a problem. then I would say 60% of the people living from here are from Ohio. they thought since they're from an icebox like that it wouldn't be a problem. ice is ice. AWD/4WD doesn't matter. that's why hockey players wear skates. the the rest of the population has literally zero exp on ice. you see the trick is don't try and drive on ice.
it doesn't work. and finally we just don't have the equipment. since it hardly happens once every 5-10 years spending all that money to store and keep all the necessary equipment just isn't worth it.I would have made it home just fine had a bunch of soccer moms in 2WD Suburbans hadn't blocked the road. had to get out and walk 8 miles. |

The same sort of thing can happen up here when it gets really hot and everybody gets distracted and drives like a moron. You guys would be all like "what is wrong with these people" as you buttoned up a jacket and put on a hat (you would laugh at what is considered "really hot" up here)

Oh sure, rub it in!
The sad part is that where I am in Canada is actually south of a small part of California!

Are the Turanza's that come on the FRS all-seasons or are they summer only like the primacy HPs that come on the brz?

You said you barely made it up your driveway in 2" of snow. Imagine if you were going downhill on a public road surrounded by other cars and needed to stop to avoid a collision. Sliding down a hill with your foot on the brakes with stock tires in the snow is not really a manageable situation. Nor is crab-walking up a hill at 1mph sideways with cars coming the opposite direction and behind you. Is it doable without hitting other cars or getting stuck? Possibly with some luck. But a manageable situation? Not really.

I remember driving home to work once during a sudden heavy snowfall. Quite nerve-racking on stock primacy tires to say the least. I pretty much slid/drifted all the way home. Luckily, my route home was fairly flat. Slowly drifting in intersections to make left turns was kinda fun though! Since I couldn't get any traction whatsoever... :/
