Loud clunk noise when i pull E-Brake
2015 FRS bone stock, just noticed when the car is in motion and i pull the ebrake (going less than 20mph and not pulling the ebrake hard) i hear a loud clunk/thud coming from under the car.
i know very little about cars but ive never owned a car that makes a noise when the ebrake is slightly engaged, any thoughts?? |

pull the lever softly a couple times before you run, then you can really wrench on it and get drifty sans the "clunk"
but yea, completely normal yet annoying.

It's a parking brake and to be used as a emergency brake if needed... In other words, why are you using it while moving?
Sound is normal for mini-drum style e-brakes. |

There's not a lot of meat to the e-brake shoes, and they're expensive. Drifting doesn't require use of the e-brake if you know what you're doing (and if you're serious about it you're doing the pedal dance) Simply put it's not meant for what you're doing. |

If you are "learning the art of drifting" at 20mph in a straight line you are doing it all wrong. The other guys are right this is a normal noise for the operation for an e brake. AND... not only are the shoes expensive if you keep it up you will glaze the inside of the drum and wreck your rotors. I make rotors at work and we get them back in this condition for attempted warranty claims all the time. |

Beware of the Youtube stuff though as a LOT of those guys don't have a clue what they are really doing and their only instruction was from Fast N' Furious which should be held up as what NOT too do in real life. There may be some stuff done by real pro drivers but no idea what to refer you to. The other alternative (and the best really) is go to a track day and get some real training. Cost you a few bucks but you get to stay alive and keep your car in one piece. |
