Those are constant-velocity u-joints.

There are 4 CV joints on these cars. One at each end of each rear drive axles.
In the manual they are referred to as "EDJ"s or EBJ (extensible ball joint )

In the manual I dont see any bolts on the axles to torque though.

No.

I understand what you're trying to say, but a Universal joint and a Constant Velocity joint are not the same.

CV (axles):

U-joint (driveshaft):

Just turn the radio up, or run a loud exhaust.

If the bolts holding the rear axle bearing housing to the rear axle carrier were loose that would be some seriously dangerous mojo.

Besides the axle nut, those are the only other axle-related fasteners I see potentially needing to be torqued.

But there's no actual torque being applied to that joint. Just a cantilevered load.

Well I feel a little dirty. I was just trolling to back up Stu. "Bazinga," I guess.

I took the wheel off again, and re-torqued the 4 'axle bearing housing' bolts, as I only did the axle nut the first time. While down there I re-torqued ALL the suspension bolts as well. Still no change. At this point in time, I am ~%95 sure its the cage in the CV joint. Is it feasible/safe to pull the boot, and check this without pulling the axle?

Probably suffered the same fate as this one..
