I used a Dremel with a grinding stone to sand down the metal stoppers. I believe there are three bumps on the inside of each tip. Grind them down all the way until the inner diameter is completely round (the bumps are solid, you won't go through the metal). It took me about 40 minutes. I also rubbed a small amount of grease on the inside of the tip to push it on easier. Just push and twist the tips until it goes where you want it. I made mine so the bottom of the exhaust pipe is level with the smaller inner diameter of the tip.

I just pushed mine to the bumps and tightened them down. They don't stick out that far.

If you push too hard you may bend your muffler and then you will have one that sticks out more than the other.

If you push them back to the bumps you can get both to line up with each other no problem, but they will stick out a bit.

The problem is that they don't both line up. I would be fine with the distance that they stick out, although I would like them in just a tad bit more, but the passenger side exhaust tip sticks out noticeably more than the driver's side tip. That is even when they are both pushed all the way to the bumps.

Are you checking to ensure that the tip is not sliding forward as you screw in the bottom bolt.

I had that issue. I would push the tip to the bump stop, make sure it was straight, then tighten the bolt, but the bolt would push the tip forward a bit.

I had to put pressure on the tip to keep it pushed back as I tightened the bolt.

Wow.... so I don't know what I was doing when I first installed the exhaust tips but I just unscrewed the passenger side tip and I pushed it in all the way successfully. Tips are now lined up evenly but I do wish they were a tad more flush with the diffuser. But they look good and I'm happy that they are now even!

Long overdue answer. I just used a rubber mallet. Seemed to work fine.
