The only thing stopping them for snow use is salt I presume?

Been following these. Started tracking this year. Planning to get the sprint kit and a track set of wheels next year. Can't wait.

Thanks for your involvement in the community

Correct. You don't want to get salt on these; it'll corrode the aluminum, and possibly cause accelerated wear between the caliper and piston if it gets in there.

My kit is sitting next to my car, should be on this thursday, Buying another set of discs and hats to use as track discs with a track set of pads as well. That should give it a huge street life and a sorta improved track life.
So hyped!!

Yes, I use 12mm spacers from amazon but others stated 10mm is enough for clearance.

Yeah, I'm taking a risk driving them year-round in north east, and already noticed some (steel) piston corrosion since Feb installation. Have to keep cleaning them when salt is on the roads. Will have them serviced every other winter when I put on stock calipers/rotors/pads, hope this system works. Don't care for piston boots that crack or disintegrate on track anyway.

Hey Essex,

First post here and i am deciding between the sprint kit and another locally made kit utilising the cp5300 caliper.

My understanding is the rotors are bigger on the cp5300 kit at 330mm.

Do you guys know waht the difference is between the older cp5300 caliper and the one you employ in the sprint kit?

Thanks!

Hi Jing. Welcome.
Unless you are insanely talented driving an uber powerful BRZ/86 then 330mm discs are more show than function. The pissant little discs in the Essex Sprint Kit are more than enough for 99.97% of people. Contact CompFriction in Canberra; they have the Sprint Kit for sale. (I don't know if they have them on the shelf or get them in per order). http://www.compfriction.com.au/ecommerce/index.php?productID=333
As an added bonus the Sprint Kit loses 4.5 kgs per wheel of unsprung mass.
Don't forget that to be legal you have to get the aftermarket brakes Engineered so if you go for the Sprint Kit don't get the optional braided brake hoses from the U.S. You can get ADR compliant braided line made to order in Aus.

hey Captain,

for sure the rotors are probably way bigger than necessary but my friend who had an essex kit on the s2k said for some reason the rotor made it super hard to fit behind certain type of wheels? is it the thickness of the rotors?

He said that the 330mm kit should be easier to fit behind wheels.

I do not know about ease of fitment with the 330mm rotors on oem wheels but to get the Sprint rotors behind the oem wheels a spacer has to be used which is not road legal here.

Opinion piece coming up. If you are going to the expense of getting a bbk then you might like to consider getting wheels as well. If you are doing it for looks then ignore this.
