This car is going to be on a long production cycle. Think closer to 7-10 years before the 2nd gen. Lowers cost.

Secondly, this car was a joint project between TMC and FHI. Automatically cuts costs to 50/50 60/40 or whatever it was. Lowers cost.

Thirdly, the car uses many off the shelf parts shared with other cars already in production. Lowers cost.

FHI already had assembly line capable of producing the car without having to build a new plant. Lowers cost.

Yep, which just blows my mind.

M3 performance for $26k. If only it was lighter and smaller.

Woo hoo!
Not dismissing it -- just bummed it didn't make a stronger statement that you can create a fun package for "just over twenty." We are now in the territory of "getting close to thirty." (Once optional aero & wheels are fitted, it's going to add up.)

In the big scheme of things this is still a remarkable car at a remarkable price. Some of us just hoped it would be cheaper. No harm in that!

Sure it does. Do you guys know time value of money? $22,200 vs $24,200. That's $2000 over the life of a 4 year car loan on average. Most people never buy a car in cash so in terms of monthly payments, it doesn't mean that much more per month. People who only look at bottom line are forgetting everything along the way.

I can understand if people were complaining about $4-6k over the original estimates. If this car was going to sell for $27-29, I woulda balked.

As for my comparo's, I meant to say the Gen 2.0T is a different beast entirely. On that same note, the MX5 is slightly different too (less hp BUT less weight!) but the MX5 is the closest to the FR-S. The Gen 2.0T is more better compared to the 1 series, 'Stang, etc. More a french knife than a surgeon's scalpel (FR-S / MX-5).

As for whoever said my Gen 2.0T cost is off, I got it off of Hyundai.com using zip code 14120.

EDIT: Interesting, if you enter a zip code further south in the US, the Gen 2.0T price drops. I guess they are trying to deter us Canucks from hopping the border and buying US cars into Canada.

I decided to pop in when I heard the price was revealed. Prices came out as expected and puts the FRS in pace with a lot of cars on the market. The FRS isn't the most horrible deal in the world but their are are quite a few options for people to pick from such as the MS3, MX5, GC, V6 pony cars and some others. What does the FRS weigh? I thought it was 2500 but I have been seeing some specs that say 2800.

Save longer, work harder, or as Jeremy Clarkson would say, "Sell the house, sell the children for medical experiments, rob a bank, and you'll soon get that money."
I will be the first person in my family to purchase a car for more then 20k, so its a big deal. My dad already thinks I'm an idiot ^^

I have enough cash to buy the car, but now my decision is... should I buy this car or finance a 128 for 8-10 extra (probably less then 8) over 3 years.

Will Canadian pricing be released tom too? If Scion does Canada a solid and makes pricing on Par, I will buy this car, if not...

But then again I can imagine the bitching & moaningg.

That's the big question, if I can get an R-spec 2.0T for less money than a BASE FRS then it'll be hard to turn it down.
26500 is still pricy at a low. Thats what... 32 on the road? 8-10k extra still gets me a nice 128. Decisions.

Even with the interest rates this low, it's still borrowed money that the bank is charging you. The good thing about it is that it's very low compared to what it used to be 4-5% APR before the economy tanked.
Guys what you do with your money is completely your own business, but let me make you guys think for a moment. Right now you can easily get 5 to 6 year loand for 2.5 to 3.0%. Depending on your credit rating, etc., etc. IMHO, you'd be foolish not to finance and use someone else's, the bank's, money and use your own money for something better. Oh like invest it or take it for a walk. If you down pay 10% on a $30k car with rates like 3.0% you're talking about a few hundred dollars over the life of the loan. Chump change.

I was going to pay cash myself until I did some research and it seems I'd be outta my mind not to finance when using someone else's money is so damn cheap right now. I could use that same money I was going to pay for the car with and use it for down payment on another proprety, which I think I just might do. So food for thought guys...

I'd hate to imagine. Becuase this thread is going to go off like firecrackers.
