seriously? look at the boost chart for sc then compare it with turbo .. amount of time in full boost is like .5krpm for a supercharger while for a turbo max boost runs from 3.5k to redline.. and you seriously think a supercharger is equivalent to a turbo? wow..
i'm sure you believe that drifting is also faster around corners then grip anywho, sry for hijacking the thread.. I"M DONE.. O_~.. hope to hear an awesome price tag on your vortech system soon ..

it's called area under the curve. imagine if we compared average hp over the course of a pull as opposed to grabbing one data point from the top and comparing things that way (seems kinda stupid when you put it that way, doesn't it?). the turbo would positively destroy any centrifugal s/c. it's due to the fact that the compressor on a turbocharger is not mechanically linked to the crankshaft, and can increase rpm independent of engine rpm, thus producing full boost much sooner than the centrigual s/c. i think that's what he's getting at, and i'm pretty sure 99% of the people here already understand that. so really he's just trolling you.
but boost is boost, it's all better than being as slow as an na 86. i wouldn't buy a centrifugal given the available options, but i can see why some do. |

I too was anti-centrifugal SC for the last 20 years when we focused on nothing but 20+psi turbo engines. This application got me to change my mind and match compressor type to the kind of car and how it is driven. In the case of our twins, I'd say that a well tuned centrifugal SC makes more for a more fun, more controller driver's car than a equally powered turbo. I've been defending turbos for decades but have now realized that there truly are different strokes for different applications. It all depends on what you are going for. Turbos do things very well. But some things very poorly. The centrifugal SC doesn't do anything poorly and many things really well. In a small lightweight RWD car that steers with the throttle as effectively as the steering wheel, having predictable/progressive torque output that can be easily modulated by the throttle is key for drivers. For drag racers, maybe not so much.
Then again, this thread isn't a turbo vs SC thread. Last edited by Shiv@Openflash; 02-26-2014 at 03:04 AM. |
