I've already confirmed that the BRZ will NOT be included in the VIP plan initially..

When a manufacturer really wants to push their vehicle sales, they will offer rates that are lower than market standards... say 0% for 60 months or .9% for 60 months, etc.. These rates are artificially lower than a bank or credit union rate because the manufacturer is subsidising the rate to make it more attractive to help sell more cars.

For a new release like the BRZ, I'm quite sure Subaru will not be spending any money to offer special incentives like low interest rates. So, they will offer their standard financing packages.. probably around 4% right now.

Dealers have multiple lenders to chose from in order to finance their customers. They have the manufacturer and then a number of local or national banks/credit unions/ or specialized auto finance corporations. Each of these sources publishes a wholesale rate to the dealership.. then dealer then chooses which of these to offer to you. When they offer you the rate, they normally mark that rate up a little to earn some profit for the dealership.

The key for the consumer is to shop around to compare rates. But keep in mind that if convenience is a big deal for you... the dealership has the huge advantage in that area. I've taken a slightly higher rate in the past just so that I had the ease and simplicity that comes with dealerships handling everything.

Rates may vary considerably depending on your credit as well.
^^What he said.

Try to pay off any balances you can if your credit score isn't at least 720 (equifax, no one around here uses anything else so it's the only one I pay attention to). Depending on whatever my current business card balance is (tends to be anywhere from 0 to $25,000 any given month) my credit score can change a fair amount so I plan on not using it for a month or so before purchase just in case (not that it matters, 760 is the same as 800 as far as a car purchase is concerned, but still).

So.. as always take everything you hear with a grain of salt..

I spoke with the GM of my local Subaru dealership and asked him if he had confirmation of the VIP question. He said that he was in a meeting on Tuesday and he asked the regional rep that question. His answer was "probably no VIP, but there hasn't been an official answer yet".

So maybe there is a glimmer of hope.. doubtful.. but maybe..

No, there's really no glimmer of hope. I reported awhile ago that SoA reps said no, and then reconfirmed with the VIP Program manager and posted that too...

Fine!!! be that way.. Stomp on a guys dreams..

I really can't justify buying the car at sticker price.. so it looks like I'll have to sit by the sidelines this summer and wait until winter or next spring. That sucks!!!

I did ask the GM if he'd consider discounting the price if VIP was not an option.. He said they would work with me.. Not sure what that means.. but maybe I could get $500 to $1000 off... Plus I'm planning on going to the auto show next weekend and they typically have a $250 auto show discount coupon that is good for 60 days.. so they is a very slim chance that I might get that.

It's not looking good for me though..

Yeah the auto show team is resubmitting my info during the new york auto show so I'll technically be getting invoice+$500-$250 :P The dealer won't care since they get the $250 back from Subaru anyways.

Dave is correct, there won't be any VIP program for this car at least for the first year. Who knows if they will open it up next year or not. Might be a while before they do.

Dave, I am impressed. You have done quite well for yourself. If I was just as eager to get the FYM, I would have probably tried to do something similar. :thumb up: But I really want to wait and see if there is any word/movement on a STI version.

Is that for all of these auto shows, or just the one you attended? I'm heading to Atlanta show, so you think they will have the discount there..

I like the way you think. All this deposit buzz is tempting me to jump on a FYM. But I'd be happier if the car came with godly GT300-inspired doodads. Interested in seeing what STI parts will be available at launch.

Alright.. I finally got definite verification from my local dealer. No VIP..

Funny though.. another dealer I've been in contact with still says they think they might have VIP.. They must not have gotten the allocation fax yet. I actually got to read that section of the letter myself..

Having said that.. I'm still going to buy the BRZ.. I got a very attractive offer from the dealer and put down a deposit.. am 1st in line and they say their allocation is 9 for the year..

Now I have to sell my Outback XT LTD before the BRZ comes..

I would sell your Outback after you get the BRZ if I was you. Who knows if there will be production/shipping delays and what not. Unless of course you have another car or mode of transportation to use.

Out of curiosity, the allocation fax states what discounts, etc. is offered by SOA?
