Where is it called "OpenTablet"? The only reference I see is "OpenFlash".

The thing you flash is open. What part is so hard to understand.

LOL truly no offense intended, but isn't this line of conversation getting a little OCD? It's just a product name.

Didnt think so, so quit your bitching.
The ROMs are Open Source
That's not the point of calling this out for not being open source.

If a product is claiming that it is "open source" and no source code is open, that is false marketing and claiming something about the product that is obviously not true. Similarly, if an open source product uses some closed source product, you the consumer should be informed to.

But if we want to throw all information out the window and just take any word a marketer throws at us, then by all means do so.

The flash itself is not open source .That's the problem.

I think saying OpenFlash is fine, but once they start saying open source tuning that's a falsity.

There is no problem. The flashing firmware is not open source. Let's move on and stop mucking what should be a tuning discussion.

Wait, so you are telling me that none of the tuning that takes place with an "open port 2.0" cable from Tactrix is "open source" because the hardware you buy and the firmware on it aren't open source?

Where exactly does the "problem" lie?

Almost no tuning flash interchanges take place OVER a truly "open source" hardware device.

by all means though, keep showing the people that are trying to put tuning in your hands that you are too self consumed to appreciate the work they have put forward.

The OpenTablet, fills the demand from the public for an open source tuning solution, and the tuning can and for most of us will be done in opensource software suites, they didn't expose their hard work for you to steal, i feel so bad for you.

Quit whining all of you, you sound like over entitled children in the candy isle at wal-mart.

Wudup Shiv! Been a fan of your work since your turbo Mx-5 miniminster days and tech articles in sport compact mag.

Quick question, will this product offer the same type of functionality such as throttle blip for downshifts, launch control, flatfoot shift, on-the-fly map changes, flex fuel, etc. as the competition?

This thread has become amusing. A truly interesting product arrives, becomes popular and then so many people start nit picking and bitching over the name of the product.... Have you nothing better to do? A company can call a product anything it wants, The product appears to be good, but apparently having a confusing name has made this product become worse?!? Maybe I should only consider a purchase if it is called "OBD2 logging, tuning and flashing tablet"?

Shiv@Vishnu going out of his way to explain that he performed the proper Vishnu reset as old subaru tuners call it is best thing in this thread.

I've seen his name associated with Subaru tuning since the late 90's.

Welcome to the forum Shiv

I apologize for you not being able to find it through all of this childish banter, but it has been posted multiple times that all of these features can be available. Keep in mind, this product is similar to ecutek, just using a different means of writing the ecu

Thank you very much OpenFlash for taking out the "open source" wording in your first post! I personally take offense to this word being used if this isn't an open source product.

And yes I'm probably being nitpicky but I care a lot about these things, and many others do too. Open Source is helping out a lot of other countries and education, who can't exactly afford a Microsoft license. It has also started a full host of smartphones with Android. Yes these are largely business driven, but a lot of the work is completely open.

This is a huge advancement for the FRS & BRZ, but in my opinion not all the way to where it could be. I'm hoping there comes something truly open source in the future but I think this OpenFlash is very cool indeed and a good alternative to Ecutek from my standpoint

I am a customer of FA20club and my tune works just great. FA20club has been an amazing company to deal with since the first day I called them. We've done 2 tracks days, plenty of parking lot drifting, and a ton of street driving and haven't experienced issues with the tune. You can see all of this here: instagram.com/chasebays

I have my complaints with ECUTEK as a product, but I have a huge amount of respect for how quickly they were to the punch and for what you can do with it. I want a stand alone engine management for the FR-S/BRZ that can be configured a more in depth. IE: Add and subtract I/O's, allow's elimination of ABS, SRS, Emissions, everything, etc. This is for the guys who are going a little crazier with their builds. As time goes on, more of these builds will pop up. So hopefully soon there will be a solution.
i follow you guys "brandonisblack_" lol love the drifting!check my vids fa20club all day woo.. and i agree standalone would b so much better
