I really don't think they are doing this to up the price. But if dealers know how many people didn't get in the first 86 in their area, they would have a lot better idea how many to order. This won't be a car for everyone, so it can help logistics a lot. I bought a car that my dealer had to get from 300 miles away, that doesn't help anyone's bottom line.

That said, I don't know if I'll sign up. It doesn't even say if they are going to get numbered plates, special options, or how long before the release they will arrive(it could be 2 days for all we know). Also I haven't made up my mind which one I want, I was going to check them out at the auto show(which opens to the public just after this finishes).

this thread made me laugh my a$$ off, boycotting the 86 list does nothing for future sales of this car, does nothing for setting the price, and will do nothing more then make a laugh, remember the Scion VP and toyota peps are regered here and they read the same threads, 86 people on a list is nothing compared to what they read here adn the fact that even if our forum boycott'ed the list 86 other people would not so it is all a moot point, as for price they already know what they are going to charge in a general range, right now it is all about getting the part vendors to commit to there parts pricing for the model run, this is the difference between a a 22k car adn a 23k car. Not ALL parts come from Toyo\Sub even there internal dept have to commit to model run prices and as we have seen before one dept communication to another can cause things like this to push pricing one way or another.

.
I have to agree. Scion wants to know what kind of demad it has for different regions. And they will get a better idea if more potential buyers participate because we will be entering home address or at least the zipcode.

And the only reward for the 86 winners is the early delivery of the car. No free options and no special numbering.

I'm signing up. Thread is a bit ridiculous. As mentioned earlier, I can not say I am too concerned about who can and cannot afford the car at X price. I would not pay a premium to own the car early, however I see no downsides in entering. I'm fairly certain at this stage in the game they already know exactly what the car will cost them and in turn, what it will cost us.

Every now and then someone pops up showing some common sense.

I'm ready and I'll sign up.

Did people even take the time to read the op post. It makes sense dont sign up if your not ready to buy,if your just signing up for kicks DON'T. This drama is as stupid as the people fighting over dont even make me list the stupid things weve fought over inthe past.

I personally think that Switchlanez is dead on the money. I worked at a Toyota dealership in 2001-2 and saw the "back end" of marketing deals like this - his scenario is exactly the way business is run.

Good work, Switchlanez! I also suspect Cossey is onto something. All trade is international now that business entities are hyper-aware of currency valuation and fluctuations.

Toyota does not control when the Detroit motor show occurs and Toyota has launched a new promotion on the back of that. Fair enough you are making a connection between two disparate things based on calendar dates. It seems too tenuous to me to be plausible, but hey-ho, each to their own and all that :-)

Little dissapointed with some of the news in the past few days.

This is an extremely cheesy marketing ploy and a tad offensive.

You're "not buying" something if you don't want it. When you find out the price and it is beyond what you feel it's worth, simply say no and you're out nothing. If you like what you hear you now have avoided putting yourself on a year long waiting list at some dealership.

It's not rocket science guys.
