They really do. I was recently in Europe on vacation and was salivating at some of their cars. I like hot hatches, and they really have lots of choices over there. But the price of gas.. Ouch.. Friggin expensive..

Is the Megane related to the Veloster? Looks almost the same from the back. Or, did Hyundai copy the design, like it did for every other car?

Sounds like it needs a supercharger, better tires and a few suspension tweaks and it'll be right where it needs to be.

Really the tires and suspension deal are ok with me, as most people will change that anyway with aftermarket goodies. A set of wheels, tires, sways and decent springs would probably be a huge improvement.

But the "down-on-power" thing really sucks as getting any significant power out of it will require a large sum of money and work.

Ah well, we'll see what happens when we all get them out on the streets

That's largely been my concern this entire time. I really hope this ends up as moddable as the WRX is, but my hopes aren't high. Saw a widebody 5-door STI today and got to longing...it's hard to turn down 265hp turbo for ~$100 more.

After the first two reviews from EVO they could tell me the sky is blue and I wouldn't believe them. Now, I really don't believe them. Maybe the FR-S is .1-.2 sec faster but that means there is a sacrifice in the suspension area that the BRZ can take advantage of. Bottom line, go with the Subaru you like even if it's the one with a Scion badge.

I don't think the Veloster is copied from other cars, even if it gets ideas from the RX8 / Mini Clubman (rear door). I think they did a very good job with the design. Actually, most of Hyundais these days look nice!
The thing is, dinamically it doesn't even come close to the best european hatches.

The 15th of June we got a day at the company dedicated to the Megane, we're developing a custom map for our exhaust with a very good programmer, a full day at the brake dyno with wideband, temperature sensors etc...
I'm really looking forward to see the results, till now the normal Megane RS 250 tests gave 260 hp from stock, 275+ with the full system.
The Trophy 265 (and the my2012 normal RS has the same engine) has close to 280 hp, with the full system on a cold day it has 300+ hp at the crank!!
I think we're looking at well over 300 hp with € 2.200 of mods. A used Megane in perfect condition can be found at less than € 20.000...

A new € 29.000 GT86 has no chance on the track.

If you order it with the "touring" kit you still get the Recaro seats but in leather and no yellow stitches and black seatbelts. Still LSD and cup suspension.

Have you ever driven a Golf GTI? Imagine it with a sharper steering, a better suspension setup, no understeer and a stronger engine, better seats but with a worse interior finish.

Thanks for taking the time to explain, and yes I have driven a GTI (used to own one) and it sounds like the Megane is one heck of a car.

Your English is very good by the way.

I agree.

Do people think a car like they want will be affordable? Even things like the trans will have to be strengthened.

Sure it might be cheaper than a Cayman, but it also would be 10-15k more than it's current price.

The aftermarket exists for a reason.

I understand oversteer and drifting is fun. But for heaven's sake, most of these magazine journalists are both spoiled and bored. They drive all kinds of cars and want to treat them all like an extreme sport.

Most driver's don't want or care for oversteer slidey stuff. Plus, you shouldn't be doing that on public roads anyway.

Don't be ridiculous, this car doesn't need much modification to handle an additional 75-100 hp. Certainly not 10-15k more (6-7k more like it).
