Just did this today, thanks for the writeup!
I had a problem with the mounting adapter screws though - it seems like they weren't getting all the way through the plate to grab on to the metal piece on the other side, so it wasn't tightening fully. I was afraid I was wearing out the threads that it connected to, so I just turned it enough that the mirror wouldn't fall off, but it is definitely not fully tightened. Anyone else notice that? |

Definitely. I noticed the plate was a little loose though. That retaining clip wasn't tight against it. Think that might've been my problem? If anything, it felt like the plate was loose so the screws weren't getting a good grip on it - maybe it was too far away from the screws and I could only get a few threads to connect and it was stripping them? I took it apart again and tried fitting the screws directly into the plate and it seemed tight and snug so I dunno what's going on here.

I guess it's possible...do the screws or threads in the plate look stripped? Is the "retainer clip" thingy inserted all the way?
Edit: You were sure to use the new retaining clip that came with the mirror and not the old one right? If I remember correctly they're different sizes and I could see the old one creating space between the new mirror mount and the plate the screw goes into.

Does anyone notice that the mirror vibrates on rough road. Does not make any noise but the image in the mirror is shaking more that it should.
There seems to be a little play on the mounting section that is attached to the glass. Anyone else have this??? |

I actually noticed less vibrating in mine after installing the AutoDimming. Previously had a lot more image distortion. Maybe it's not tightened enough?

Finally got my mirror in the mail and got it installed.
To make installation a little easier on my large hands I found disconnecting my dome light gave me a little more wiggle room. Also the FR-S power cord in the overhead does not need to be cut loose to be utilized, just orient the plugs and bowling ball pinch them together. If you have issues finding the cord in the ceiling, just know it is tucked away on the passenger side of the hole. If you want to put eyes on it just push your steering column all the way in and pull your seat as far as you can forward. The trick to reduce the vibrations of the mirror is not to crank down on the screws. You will feel them become snug and they will back out if you continue cranking on them. Just get them snug and leave them be. |

Just a quick note - when I installed mine, I found it pretty difficult to route the connector wire through the headliner. There's a hard plastic piece directly in ahead of dome light the that doesn't seem to give enough clearance for the plastic connector head (black head -> mirror) to fit through. Fortunately, about 5-6 inches to the right, there is more clearance and the connector head easily slips through. Then I just had to pull the wire through and straighten it out.

I too, am having slight vibrations on bumpy parts of the road. Its not terrible, but i do notice it. I also did not over tighten the screws... any advice?
Update: I realized that the bracket is self tapping, and after another look it was indeed stripped. I'm about get another mounting kit and try again! Last edited by Avo1789; 05-31-2013 at 08:03 PM. |
