This is my front rotor with project mu hc+800 after six track days with stock tires. It seems to be pad smear? Should I swap out the rotor? Appreciate any input.

Rotor is fine. Upgrade your pads.

What do you think about an oil/trans cooler? It's never really mentioned, so I assume it's just not necessary. I buy the trans/diff maintenance package with Motul 300 from CSG every spring and change those fluids at the start of every year. Otherwise, nothing else is done. What do you guys do for trans/diff maintenance?

Just regular changes. No more needed unless you're endurance racing.

I overheated my brakes as my HP+ were smoking after a few laps at gingerman raceway up by south haven michigan. What brake pads do you recommend? I ran this with no brake ducts, sti brembos, and castrol srf fluid. (brz is also supercharged)

I thought about getting brake ducts, but i haven't really been sold on one yet. So maybe a better brake pad may do the job?

You've got 2 problems. First, you should definitely get better pads. HP+ are dual purpose pads that do neither purpose great so you should step up to something more aggressive as you get faster at the track.

Second problem is that STI Brembos have a significant front bias compared to our standard brakes and that doesn't play well with our cars on track because your fronts get overworked. You should get a kit that is properly engineered for our cars but a band-aid solution is to run staggered pad compounds front and rear with less aggressive pads in the front. Examples I can think of are Hawk DTC-60 in front, DTC-70 in rear, Winmax W4 in front, W5 in rear or Carbotech XP10 in front, XP12 in rear.

I'll reiterate that staggering pad compounds is a band-aid solution and you should really invest in a proper BBK that is engineered for our cars. AP Racing and RR Racing make some great kits for our cars so you should look at one of their offerings.

thanks for your reply. I am relatively new to tracking. I was actually using stop tech street pads for the first year to get the feel for my car. Once I supercharged it, I cooked those completely. I went with the HP+ and sti brembos because I was still learning and getting the hang of things, plus didn't really have the budget for a proper bbk. I got all that equipment for less than $600 just to justify it and I thought it was a pretty good deal and it performed a lot better than the oem brakes. For the first time due to running the brembos and better pads than stoptech I can feel that my rear end would almost wobble a little bit going 120+mph to slowing down to 60 in a few seconds due to the front brake bias. I'll try out your suggestion though. thank you!!

Currently at the track. ABS light kicked on during a session. Had pedal dance active. ABS code wont show up on my code reader and cant clear it. Brakes still feel fine. Not sure if ABS is still active or disabled, track is still on break. Wheelspeed sensor cables are plugged in and look fine. I assume a wheelspeed sensor has failed, and I'm looking for a way to clear the code and see if it comes back.

Any ideas?

Did you spin out or go off when it started? If so, shut the engine off and back on 3-4 times and the light should clear.

Maybe you could drive to the nearest auto parts store, they should have a reader capable of pulling and clearing the abs codes.

Or if you have a Bluetooth obd2 reader you could download the carista app. $20

Nope, didn't spin or go off. Turning it on and off numerous times didn't clear it.

I actually have no idea. I didn't even realize the ABS light was on until I parked the car in the paddock and saw the light right as I went to turn off the car. I ran another session and it just turned itself off as I drove down the front straight after entering the track. The ABS went out again half way through the session when I was chasing a friend of mine. Tires locked up for just a moment before I lifted and kept going. Didn't do it the last session of my day and has never come back. Not a clue what it's about.

Here's a video of the 2nd time it happened. You can see it at 2:45.

Throwing this out there...

This season I am running a basically CS stock legal car. OEM dampers, oem rims with 225/45/17 RE71's but the whiteline bar on full stiff, and xp10 pads all around. I have taken almost 3 seconds off my time from last year with this setup. Last season I was running 17x9 rpf1's with rs3's, lowering springs, and stock arb's...(same xp10's)

3 seconds on my fav track that is..

is it the bar? the tires? Also won my first AutoX this year (tho to be fair i went from stx to cs)

The tires are certainly helping, and i was real surprised about the bar, the balance has shifted to the point where getting the tail loose is difficult but at the same time my times are alot faster.
