If it's your FIRST first time, you may be okay. However, if you have an instructor, or anyone who is giving you guidance in the car, then see if you can at least borrow a set of race pads from a local.

On another note, I see you are local. What event are you doing?

Its the drivers edge event in february as MSR cresson. Are you going to that one?

Do you have tools to work on your own car?

Set of pads $200, brake fluid maybe $50, Motive power bleeder $50.

If you already have a jack and some basic tools that is only $300 to have a significantly better time at your track event.

My first event ever I put in XP10 pads and Motul RBF600. I had a great time. No fade. Learned a lot. Watched many others with brake issues when I just parked my car and put my feet up.

There is a lot to take in on a first track day and worrying about your brakes working is not what you want to have in your mind. IMO it is a no brainer.

If you don't mind spending a few more $ I would also say put in OEM camber bolts and get an alignment. You can install them when doing the brakes and they only cost about $15 plus the cost of alignment ~$100.

EDIT: Just saw you have autox experience, there is no way stock pads are going to work for you...

Lol I like the edit. Yeah I have my own tools so doing a pad/fluid swap would be really easy and I already have camber bolts installed as well (getting about -1 degree of camber).

I was really looking at the Ferodo ds2500. They seem to be a good pad.

Are you going to swap at events? I thought about those pads at first too but quickly realized it wouldn't work for me.

XP10 are fine on the street, just noisy after you wear off the transfer layer. I actually went through 2 sets, the first set ended up having uneven wear for some reason. I drove a couple hundred miles to a track event and smelled brakes, they were sticking.

They stopped sticking and I bought a second set because of the uneven wear. Soon after that I decided to just got with the AP Sprint kit and be done with it. Best decision I made IMO. Did 5 track days on them with XP10 and still have at least half pad left.

But I digress. Get some track pads and fluid. Swap at track if you can. You will not regret it.

Another vote for swapping in track pads/fluid.

I do my pads the day before and take them off when I get home, if I'm not too tired, or the day after.

Thanks for the help and just out of curiosity what deterred you from the ds2500?

From user reviews people still fade them on the track. Seem to be fine in autox though.

I ran Project Mu fluid without any issues last summer, but picked up a bunch of RT700 on a sweet deal so I'll be using that this summer.

What tires? What track? Length of sessions? What brake pads? Any other info?

That is kind of a vague statement....
