You have to remember that the dealer is not Scion, they are the dealer. I know it's easy to relate the two, because of the giant SCION letters out front. Really though, dealerships can range from extremely competent to complete jackasses.

Actually, for those who made the list, have you started thinking about the max you'd pay? I feel like the incentive for staying with the program, even though theres so much info we lack, is that we will get it for MSRP, whatever that may be, as the dealer won't be able to add markup or any dealer-installed accessories unless we let them and approve the additions in advance (per the contract). By waiting for the regular release, sure you have more wiggle room as far as choices and more reviews to base decisions off of, but then they are also free to add market adjustments and "performance packs" to inflate the price and increase profit margin...

Any thoughts?
I think I'm in the same boat. I put my deposit down, but I'm thinking that Subaru VIP pricing may be about the same for a FRS... I guess I'm going to just wait it out and see where pricing falls.

I asked him if he was sure about that since 6 people out of 86 in the US were all scheduled to have their 86s delivered to this very dealership, and of course being completely pompous he said it was what it was and then he sent me away with another clueless sales person to take the deposit and assured me they'd let me know when/if my car came in.

Not wanting to spend time arguing with him, I did the paperwork and got on the horn with Scion corporate. After a decently long wait time I got in touch with 'Venus' and she was able to get everything straightened out. I ended up working with the main Toyota sales manager of the place and he congratulated me, made sure all the paperwork was in order and told me that he was sorry for the earlier idiocy I had to put up with and that I'd be well taken care of from here on out.

I'm definitely glad it is over and I'll keep my spot as one of the first to get one in Texas, but I think the short timeline of the promotion made for a tight window of communication between corporate and at the very least my local dealership and that definitely made for a lackluster experience for a 'winner' of a promotion.
You picked universal Toyota/scion right? They are the worst Toyota/scion dealer in San Antonio.

Alamo Toyota/scion is the best especially the new dealership on 1604/281.

I am just going buy what other Toyota scion people have told me.

This looks like a scam. I am thinking there will be a second and third wave of emails sent to the people who are on the waiting list for early delivery. Toyota is doing this to make people commit to the car. When you have a deposit down, you are not likely to go buy another car. And if more than 86 people show up on this board who will complain? All of you will be getting the car earlier than the "public".

So what happens if the people who "won" the car.. I mean not won the car.. but won the chance to buy the car........ or whatever.... haha it sounds so ridiculous - eh hm okay. So say the winner is going to test drive their FR-S that arrived early (before it's released to the general public) - and they don't like it, or can't afford it because the price is $29k, will they not sell it to the next guy who walks on the lot wanting the car?

It seems like basically, the first 86 cars will be delivered to these first dealerships. That's about it. Then a few more shipments will start being made in the next few days or so.

Ah so so so silly for them to do this and we have no idea how much it will cost. Then again I'm sure it's just a marketing strategy.

It can become a big deal if there is a long waiting list.

No doubt its marketing, the only way I'll feel rewarded is if:
1. We get it significantly (30 days at least) earlier than official release
2. the first 86 are somehow 'limited' by badges/plaques iono something that sets them apart from the bunch (and maybe adds value, eh probably just sentimental)
3. the 'bonus' items are really really really awesome...the one guy who got a hat and shirt has the best deal so far...haha i got a receipt for my deposit...not enough
4. some free TRD parts
5. 0% financing LOL

aside from that, meh, oh well i'm probably gotta buy it if the price is right, just like the rest of us, so might as well enjoy having the golden ticket for a while, even if its not to the chocolate factory...uh, whatever u know what i mean

When I bought my FJ, Toyota had a deal for the first "X" number of people to buy an FJ in 2007 got a 1/18th scale diecast model of the color they purchased.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-AUTOART-...#ht_733wt_1163

Not mine, but a link to one like I have. I thought it was pretty neat. I was able to get my hands on a yellow one and a silver one as well. I just need a blue and a black to have all 5. The people that bought the black TRD Special Edition received the BAJA model diecast.

It would be neat if they did something similar for the FR-S too.

I do not know if this is a scam, but it seems that they are not very well coordinated/organized. By the way, I did not get anything, not even wait listed. This is nothing more than a bit more formalized version of pre-orders some of the people on this forum had already done. This is another desperate effort of keeping the hype up. My guess is that the first delivery date has been pushed back, so Toyota is trying to make the originally rumoured first delivery date (June, I believed) sound like an "early delivery date". I also find the number of sign-up's very underwhelming. Anybody who is "selected" has zero risk. The only thing is you have to have a $500 deposit to put down, but even that, you could pull out any time if you like. Yet, they got only 3,400 people signed up?

Where did you get that info? I've been dying to know how many people entered.

I received that number from the Scion rep on the phone and the salesman I worked with at the dealership used the same number as well. I'm assuming the 3400 is only for the first 8 hours and 6 minutes, even though it seems they kept registration open outside of that window.

Agreed on nearly every point. My preference is for TRD parts and/or the plaques, though I doubt that'll happen. So far there isn't really anything to sweeten the deal other than at some nebulous point in time, if we choose to buy the car, we will get it an undetermined period of time before the undetermined release date.

At this point and likely until it's released, we know more about this car than the dealership network.

Extras for the winners will probably depend on the final price of the car.
