The strap wrench is useful on adjustable shocks that do not have have an allen socket to hold the shaft still or there's a damper adjuster there. Never keep the shaft still by using the adjustment knob.....

I know I will get crap for this, but I've put a few rags over the very top of the shaft and used vice grips on the rags for probably 6 or 7 different suspension installs over the years and I have never scored the shaft, spun the shaft around or failed to loosen the top nut.

Ghetto but effective.

This is hilarious reading back thru some of the posts of people saying "Eibachs will DEFINITELY screw up your car having had no experience dealing with them personally and just trying to jump on the bandwagon. Eibach is a great MFGR and I have supported their products for years.

More details of how the OP's friend "busted" his factory shocks and got a set of Sportline springs before we even manufactured them would be great.
So..... I pulled apart Chris' shocks and struts this weekend. First off, they're Prokit, not Sportlines, and what I found will settle this once-and-for-all.

McLean bought them and I'm installing them as soon as the weather breaks, so, I pulled the springs off the stockers in my kitchen so I could clean them up.

ONE of his struts and ONE of his shocks were trashed and leaking fluid like a mofo.

It seems to me that the springs had nothing to do with blowing his stock dampers on ONE side. More likely, he slammed a Memphis pothole on that side, blowing both at the same time.

Par for the course for Chris, as well as Memphis roads.

Rest easy 86ers, Eibach and Tein are solid on their R&D. Buy with confidence.

I will be having Pro Kit springs installed in the next week or so and also having 18in. wheels installed along with them. But I was told that Im going to need to replace my struts to accommodate the springs. Any thoughts on this? I dont want to ruin my suspension just by putting on lowering springs.
