I need that to keep from spinning out in high speed sweepers because I suck, haha! Like Want.FR-S showed, better drivers can do better even without the upgraded suspension.
I just did 2 laps, first lap was 8:20 and the 2nd ws 8:16. 1200kg/200ps. No changes in tyres/suspension. Turned off TC.

From 1000 kg (Toyota FT-86) the car came to 1200 kg (Toyota FT-86 II). But did the power go from 200 PS to 300 PS? No!
HTF is it possible ???

Those aren't actual production cars. Just concepts. Engineering is hard.

See better driver can achieve better result. Just for the record, I was using sport hard tire.

Tester's notes on FT-86.

http://www.autocar.co.uk/blogs/still...-to-drive.aspx

“We know this car has to deliver, if we are ever going to change people’s opinions about how Toyotas drive. The mission is to rekindle the spirit of the old rear-drive Corolla people remember so fondly, without removing the practicality today’s owners need, which will encourage them to use the car every day. There’s still work to do, but I believe we’ve achieved a lot.

“We’ve develop the steering to give a near-instant response. And because of this, and the excellent weight distribution, the car is very, very adjustable when cornering.

T"he effort builds up nicely through the wheel as you go harder. We think we’ve got the initial cornering roll just right, so the car feels very responsive on turn-in, and it tucks in nicely when you lift off, too.

“The other thing is the body control. We’ve been very careful with the damping, so the car stays flat and just soaks up the bumps. There’s very little bounce, even on poor surfaces, which should help in the UK. With this suspension, the great driving position, the lightness and the throb of that flat four, I think people might reckon we’ve built something pretty good.”

"pretty good" is not enough for me when it could be "the best".

What does "the best" mean? The best compared to what?

So i stand corrected and people are probably right that the FT86 will be able to do a late 8min lap. But i dont think its going to be able to get below 8:30 with 200bhp and 1300kgs (just over 2800lbs by my calculations right?).

I hope the car is lighter.... i thought it was going to be about 1100kgs (just under 2500lbs) originally?

Also i wonder how hard you can corner in the FT86 before it breaks traction? Having been developed as a homage to the AE86 id expect it to be a car thats easy to drift, meaning its going to be more difficult to get it to stick in corners at high speed surely?
That's a misconception about drift cars. It's mostly a function of tires, and this car will probably have very good grip when it's on good summer rubber.

Take a drift car, slap some good summer rubber on it, and it's going to stick in the corners like crazy....

THAT'S a misconception. drift cars run very sticky rubber. it's how you drive it that counts. NOT slippery tires...

Never said drift cars ran slippery rubber...was attempting to imply the opposite. Perfectly aware that they run grippy tires...how else would they maintain control?

correction. it already has good grip.

correction again. it already has good rubber on it.

so even if you knew drift cars ran sticky rubber, the way you said it was poor and anyone reading it may think drift cars simply use crappy tires to spin them.

Yep, worded it poorly. Still knew that though

Our famed 86 enthusiast motohide/Moto-P (Moto Miwa) recently mentioned that Mr. Tada told him several months ago that the stock 86 test mule had already "narrowly beaten the lap time of the Subaru WRX Sti during testing on the Nurburgring a several months ago". Since the official lap record of the WRX STi (last-gen nevertheless) is 8:24, it can be inferred that the 86 can do faster than 8:24, which would make it faster than a lot of cars with much higher horsepower including the 335i (whose record stands at 8:26).
