Header/Exhaust Wrapping Question(s)

Hey all,
I am getting a new header soon, and I was thinking it would be nice to do something to help with heat generation/convection.

I am cheap so I was wondering what the thoughts are on wrapping headers.
I searched and only found one topic so far regarding heat reduction and headers. A lot said don't wrap cause of a chance of fire if oil leaks on the header. It sounded like there were ways to combat this possibility.

I don't want to ceramic coat this header. I still plan to get a turbo in time, but I wanted to try a header first, and I'll sell it later.

Question(s)

1. Should I wrap my header for a basic header install and full exhaust setup. No turbo at this time, nothing special done besides the exhaust and tune (OFT).

2. If I do wrap it, how much wrap do I need to purchase. I've seen them anywhere from 15' to 100'. I was looking at 2" wrap so far.

3. Any recommendations for wrap brand/type?

Thanks in advance. I did search a couple of times via phone (tapatalk), tablet (tapatalk), google (PC), and the forum advanced search (PC). I only found one thread that was useful.

I don't want to ceramic coat this header. WHY? Cost? For the price of one or two rolls of wrap you can get it coated. Is probably the best investment you can make on this car. Plus even though you might not recover the cost of having them coated, you would make it more attractive to the buyer. I still plan to get a turbo in time, but I wanted to try a header first, and I'll sell it later.

Question(s)

1. Should I wrap my header for a basic header install and full exhaust setup. No turbo at this time, nothing special done besides the exhaust and tune (OFT). - Short answer yes, anything to keep the temps down regardless if it is turbo or not. I would go with ceramic coating though. Easier and I reckon cheaper.

2. If I do wrap it, how much wrap do I need to purchase. I've seen them anywhere from 15' to 100'. I was looking at 2" wrap so far. Depends how good are you at wrapping. I would recommend to get some metal clamps for the ends, and spray the wrap with silicone (DEI makes it) so you seal the wrap from oil, water, etc.

3. Any recommendations for wrap brand/type? - Heaps on line, but make sure you get the good stuff as some will just fry and start braking. Since you are cheap though, you might end up with an inferior product and be unhappy and sorry that you didn't do it right first time. (wrap or ceramic coat) You get what you pay!

Thanks in advance. I did search a couple of times via phone (tapatalk), tablet (tapatalk), google (PC), and the forum advanced search (PC). I only found one thread that was useful.

Mainly would be due to patience. I would like to ceramic coat but I just want to install it. I'll look around and get a quote on price and time.

I am cheap but doesn't mean I refuse to buy top brands as long as they are actually better in quality etc. A lot of things these days are expensive due to the name and not necessarily the quality.

Blah. No one close (Within 90 miles) does ceramic coating.

DEI Titanium Wrap is pretty legit, and way easier to work with than the traditional stuff (way less itchy). I used an entire roll of 2"x50" for my UEL headers. It's available on Amazon for something around $40-50 a roll. I used hose clamps to tie everything together.

As a note, DEI does NOT recommend their silicone sealant for their Titanium wraps.

How did you wrap the collector portion. Is each tube wrapped, or did you just wrap the whole thing.

I bought the DEI and some metal ties.

I think it depends on the header, and how much room you have. I know you asked about the collector not the tubes but I went with Open Flash, and the tubes actually made contact in some spots, so I wrapped both parallel tubes together.

Yeah, just wrap them individually until you can't, and then wrap them together.

I used the DEI wrap. Start by watching the DIY videos they put up on youtube. Easy to do and cost effective. Real world drop in oil temp was 110c unwrapped vs 107c wrapped. That's with a 45 minute highway/city drive.

I wrapped my coated Gruppe-S headers with a generic titanium wrap I got on Amazon. I was going to get the DEI one but they don't ship to California. We'll see how it holds up.

Also, I wrapped them while they were on and it was a pain. I would have gotten a better wrap job with the hem off but I didn't want to remove them. Didn't come out that bad though.

random but doesnt wrapping headers void warranty? Was at Subaru dealer a year ago looking at BRZ's and I remember a client being angry because dealer would not service(?) his Forester after finding the wrap.

Those are gruppe-s headers. Warranty isn't from Subaru. And wrapping stock would be a bit*h. They are already covered with heatshield
