Concerning thoughts...FR-S the new Civic?
I am going to love my FR-S when it arrives, but I am worried that the FR-S maybe the new Civic. Obviously, they are two completely different cars, but does anyone know how many FR-S' are being built? I remember late 90's every other car was a freaking Civic, does the FR-S have the potential be just like that?
I would REALLY HATE to see the FR-S being bought by everyone and it then being considered the new Civic. Your thoughts? |

Don't know that it will have the production numbers of a civic so I wouldn't exactly worry about that. However there's no reason this car or the BRZ should be terribly exclusive either.
This has been brought up numerous times, search around a bit and you'll see what the general thoughts on this topic are.

My understanding is that the BRZ and FR-S are limited production. That being said, it definitely has the potential in that it's relatively affordable and highly customizable but I don't think any car is going to take the civic's place.
Lastly though, who cares? I love my FR-S. Sent from HTC Rezound using Tapatalk 2

It's not the same mass-appeal car as a civic. There is no 4-door version, it doesn't have a lot of cargo space and it actually looks sporty. It simply won't become that common.

Well, I think your thread is kind of touching on many topics.
Are you saying civics are a bad thing? Because I've seen some cool ones too. This car won't be limited production, but it's not going to be made at nearly the same number as honda's #1 selling car. It's not going to be exclusive, because it's a relatively affordable car. Is it going to be riced out? Surely it is... but I've seen riced out GT-Rs too. As an owner of a few sporty/performance cars, some being limited production and others not... I've learned / grown to appreciate rarity of some and the camaraderie of others. I've been to a few 7th/8th gen civic meets, and the owners there were way more down-to-earth and friendly than some Z/G meets, for example. Maybe I'm the only one that thinks being a part of both the Scion AND Subbie community because of ONE car that's the second cheapest car I've owned, is pretty cool. Considering Scion, Subaru and Toyota participate in all different types of motorsports / car shows. |

My first car was an '89 Civic Si. This was before the mid to late 90's when all the mass civic tuning started. People would even tell me I just got one cause it was the "it" car which would annoy me, but then laugh since I had owned one before all these kids clued into them.
Who gives a crap who else drives the FR-S/BR-Z. If you like it, that's all that matters. If you're gonna be worried about what others drive or think about what you drive, I suggest the problem is yours, not the rest of the worlds.

Kids in car seats still and just wouldn't work in an FR-S especially in winter. |

Sorry, this thread wasn't meant to be a knock on Civics, but more how our cars will hold their value over time. The R32 only made a limited amount and are still holding a pretty decent value. As with any car, the more saturated the market is, the less value the car holds over time.
Also, I too owned a 99 Civic SI, so it's not a big deal to me. I just hated the fact that at every stop light i'd line up next to some other civic and they would rev or other stupid sh*t. |

This will be the new S2000
Or the new Miata. Civics have mass appeal.

That's not necessarily true if you factor inflation. in the late 90's the civics we're going at around 15-19k depending on what you add at the dealership. If you were to compare them today, obviously, they would be a different price points. But the civic today is a shadow of what the civics were then (in my opinion). |

It's out of the Civic price range for sure.
Production numbers should be massively lower then the Civic. I have friends that work at a dealer and family that works at corporate and both have eluded that the volume of FR-S at your average dealer will be 1-2 units a month. I know Honda dealers in small towns that can do 1-2 units a day on the Civic. I don't think there's any worry about it becoming the next Civic in terms of volume. It'll never be super exclusive like say the LFA or the Ferrari FXX, but it'll sure be more exclusive (and hold value better) than a Civic. EDIT: I'm with the others that seem to put it in the S2000/Miata class.

The car is $25K to $28K for the 6 speed versions, way more expensive than any lowly honda civic. Honda has nothing to worry about. You will never see as many FR-S rolling around as tC's or Honda Civics.
Honda needs to make a RWD Integra....so they can compete! But they have no balls anymore... |

They need to make a 4-door version for reals! It would sell like hot cakes. There are no cheap RWD smallish sports sedans...
