Silly question about a wastegate.
I have just done my first turbo (fully installed now) and there is a wastegate with a short pipe leading off of it. I bought the kit used and the guy didn't have the original shortened front pipe from the kit so I had one made. My question is if that pipe off of the wastegate should lead back into the exhaust or just end and kind of dump everything out? Let me know before I asphyxiate in my car and take the environment with me. Thanks!
tl:dr Should the wastegate lead back into the exhaust? |

So it can route back into the exhaust and most systems will do this. You can also, if you like ridiculously loud "screamer pipes", leave it as is. Normally best for that pipe to be routed outside of the engine bay in a way it won't vent to the cabin, for whichever route you choose to take. Its some peoples style, but I personally recommend against it for the reasons of sound and gasses in the engine bay and cabin.

For real, I have been getting fumigated. It sounds like a diesel but I am happy to hear it doesn't hurt anything until I can get it fixed.

Ya as a dump pipe when at max boost settings, the car is loud and can get cops looking. It's up to you. If you do have it recirculate in to you exhaust make sure exhaust is big enough and doesn't cause back pressure on your wastegate. It will make your turbo spool slower.
