chaotichoax - swp brz

I'm 25 and have been into cars since the original Gran Turismo. Started out with a Ford Lightning, went to a STi, then three Evo's (IX/X/VIII) in that order, long story. I owned the Evo IX for 4 years which proved to be the longest I ever owned a vehicle thus far. Took a break from performance cars and bought a Tacoma, which was lame but served its purpose; unfortunately I was hit on two separate occasions each causing 8k in damage and it never drove the same. Got into a 2012 WRX Limited but honestly do not find myself attached to the car. There are a lot of little things I don't like about it and I was exploring options to get out of it without setting me back too much..

Along came the BRZ and I wanted to wait a while for some bugs and little issues to be resolved. It seems that the majority of the known stuff is being handled. I went into a Ford/Suby dealer in Central NJ (All-American) and they have worked with me to ensure I was able to make the switch for an amount I was comfortable with. I order a BRZ 3 weeks ago and was told it wasn't looking good before 2013. Which made sense based on what I had been reading on here. Turns out they found an unallocated BRZ matching my order in PA and were able to get it for me. I opted for 86 miles on the car and paying below MSRP versus waiting another 4-6 months. Who knows exactly how the 86 miles went (how odd that it was 86 miles haha) an omen I guess. I'm not going to worry about it though. It's a car it's meant to be driven.

It will be my only car, it will see rain and snow. Looking forward to being part of this community.

My Evo IX for reference:

How is it coming from an evo to a 200 hp rwd coupe? I have always loved evos but felt like they were too much money for what they were....

Based on that evo pic im sure your brz will look very clean and tastefully modded, good luck!

I haven't actually driven the BRZ yet but honestly, nothing compares to an Evo. They are on another level. They can be had used for very reasonable prices. The VIII/IX models respond to bolt on modifications like most cars can only dream of. The IX pictured above made 351 whp/349 wtq on a stock turbo 93 octane map with bolt-on's. They are just remarkable machines.

I honestly just ran out of things to do to mine and wanted to try something new. I ended up buying a Evo X at that point and again it's just an unbelievable machine. The X has a lot more electronic related traction components and handles like a race prepped car. They are a little heavier and feature the first Evo without a 4G63 but they have made their mark. Look at Ryan Gates and his Evo X he ran in the time attack class below unlimited (the real big boys) and went undefeated. An STi falls short in comparison. I've owned a STi so I can say that. Dollar for dollar you won't beat a used Evo. I'm just looking for something new.

One thing i miss about my evo is the 4g63, greatest 4 banger engine i think.

After a few days I have been able to develop some impressions. It is very strange to have such a dead zone in the mid RPM range. I've come from many turbo cars and it just feels wrong haha. It is my first coupe and that is still something I'm getting used to. Not a lot of room that's for sure, backseat is worthless but I knew that going into it. I will have my first experience putting my hockey bag and sticks in the car. With the rear seats dropped down I think I'll be fine.

The car is definitely fun and handles exceptionally well. I haven't driven a RWD vehicle in a while so I am taking it easy and finding my limits. Coming the the trashy gearbox in the 2012 WRX I was driving, this 6 speed is a delight. I am very happy with the transmission. Overall, the car gets a lot of looks and attention. I love the seats, they are very support. As many have said, they are built with a smaller frame in mind and fit me very well. I also like the very simple dash. I like my controls very simple and this fits the bill 100%

So far I am happy with my decision. I will be looking into tires for winter next.
