Tire setup for drifting

I'm trying to figure out a good tire set up for drifting on stock power maybe up to 300hp. Does tire thickness (aspect ratio) matter? What about tire diameter? Based on the drifting thread it indicates that 215-245 mm for tire width but lacks info on wheel diameter and and tire aspect ratio. I also wanted to know how low is considered low to prevent the issue of snapping the cars axle.

Stock setup works well enough.
Just go out to a nice skid pad or safe spot where you won't hit any curbs. Then turn off the nannies, and just have fun. Giggle like a school girl.

Like Mr.AC said, stock setup and size works well. I'm still on stock suspension, and you can't go much wider than 225's in the front (for added grip), and any bigger in the back and you won't be able easily get the back end out or continue a drift with stock power.
I've been running 205s & 215 width tires, mainly just going with what I can find cheapest. 17 inch is by far cheaper than 18 or 19.

Personally the biggest I'd go would be 225 squared.
17x7.5/8 wheels.

Better to learn on stock size and go from there.

Aspect ratio and diameter doesn't matter as long as you have the same front/rear.

Width varies but if you want to spin 245s be prepared to have more than 300HP and skill.

Axles, surface condition matters more than ride height when it comes to drifting...

Sigh man... Feels bad when you have to go 17s and lose aesthetics... I wanted to do 18 inch wheels but I guess for function I have to sacrifice...

Yeah..... Don't tell me your that kind of person.

Well you know what they say, "All show, No go". All those cars on car shows and parking lots don't do shit. It's just a huge circle jerk meet.

When I was young I thought those guys where out on the track every weekend, till I went to a track. Didn't see any shiny car there at the end of the day. The ones that where there, couldn't take the heat and didn't stay after lunch.

Yup don't really want anything bigger than a 215 on the rear with stock power. Also as far as axles snapping it really varies. I'm really low (I'm on air ride) but I haven't had a problem yet. But there has been a few guys with problems. Some people are more aggressive depending on the track with clutch kicking and what not. But if you're worried just don't go too low. You can look at the axle angle.

I think aspect ratio will come into play if the side walls deform as the tyre will fold thus giving the sense that you have lack of control. So isn't a stiffer sidewall better?

Your reasoning is not based on actual drifting experience.

A stiffer sidewall is not better. Or worse.

Tire pressure and compound (grip) is what matters. Drifting is about control (when spinning the tires), not about losing control.
