Rev Limiter When Changing the Shift Light/Beep Setting....?

OK, this was a weird one....

Yesterday I changed the Shift light/beep setting from 7k down to 4k just to remind myself to save some gas.

So I start it up this morning to go to work. Check engine light comes on. I let it idle down and then back out of the driveway and ease down the street. Get out on the main road and tach it up a bit. Tach needle started bouncing at 4k. Did that for my whole 20 mile commute. Felt and acted exactly like a rev limiter.

Took it in to dealer at lunch and it ran fine getting there. Subaru service couldn't reproduce problem but told me the code was "U0155-Lost communication with instrument panel cluster".

Going to try to reproduce it at a different rev setting.

Anybody else run into this? '15 BRZ Limited with 2k miles.

I figure that the ECU & engine just "lost interest" - not so much "lost communication" ........ because you weren't going to rev it above 4,000 RPMs .........

The shift light\beep is jist an indicator it has no effect on rpm limit or rpm fuel cut ect.

The reason your rpm was limited to about 4k was because of the check engine light and cel code U0155, this puts ecu into limp home or low power mode where rpm is limited to about 4k and safe timing and fueling tables in ecu are used.
Once the code cleared all will go back to normal.

do you have any obd port device plugged into your obd port like scanner guages ect, these can sometimes interrupt the can buss signals and cause ecu to loose communication with dash cluster, causing that code and limp home mode especially if you plug or unplug them while engine is running

if nothing in obd port its likey your dash cluster may be faulty of its connection to can buss

Thanks Steve99. Makes perfect sense. The Techs said they increased the connector pin pressure and couldn't replicate the problem.

Did someone say RPM"s"?? Minute"s"??
