DC Sports exhaust

I've been waiting patiently for an exhaust to come out that suits my needs and desires. I wonder if this new DC Sports exhaust is the ticket.

Having listened to dozens of youtube sound clips I've come to the conclusion that I much prefer the sound quality that comes from split muffler systems (ie. Greddy Evo3, Invidia N1) rather than the single tank versions (Invidia Q300, Perrin, most others).

The problem with the dual muffler designs is that they seem to suffer from the dreaded "drone". In addition, they are normally very loud.

With that in mind, I'm wondering if the design of the DC Sports piece might just fix this. Note the "helmholz resonator" in the center. I wonder if they were able to use that to tune out that drone sounds that seems to hit in the 3-4k rpm range with the Greddy/Invidia systems. I can't wait to hear a sound clip. I'm getting impatient.. we have multiple venders who say they have them for sale, but nobody has hooked one up and tested it.

Anyone have any thoughts on this system?

You have to like the sub $650 price point.

By the way. I also really like the fact that they took the extra energy to go around the rear diff rather than under it (Agency Power). I would never buy an exhaust that hangs that low under the car. What a lazy design.

Also note that the factory "single tank" rear muffler is designed with aero-dynamic in mind, so changing the geometry of that also effects aero dynamic, not a big deal though.

If you like double canister exhaust, I would go for ARK GRiP, not a fan of DC's quality

Also take a look at the MXP system. Dual muffler but both reside in the stock muffler spot and are welded together with a plate to help with aerodynamics.

sent from a Galaxy SIII...

Thanks for the input guys.

I like both ARK Grip and the MXP.. though I think the MXP is a little close to stock sound. The problem is the price.. MXP is $1000 and the ARK is $1350 or more.

I'm not sure how much the aero quality of the exhaust system really matters.. I'm not exactly planning to run the Texas Mile.. There's a chance I might hit 100 if i did a track day somewhere.. more likely about 75 on the highway on the way to work is my top speed. I doubt that the change in under-body aero will have much impact. Maybe I'm wrong??

Come on venders.. someone get us a sound clip of this thing!!!!

[QUOTE=eikond;902026] I doubt that the change in under-body aero will have much impact. Maybe I'm wrong??[QUOTE]

A few people in the HPDE/Racing section have already noticed the difference in handling characteristics of the FRS as low as 90mph after removing the stock muffler.

Basically what happens is it creates a high-pressure "pocket" behind the rear diffuser that results in a little bit more lift. This can cause the rear to be a tab bit more unstable than before. I'm sure I'll be noticing this next month when I run at Road Atlanta and I have already been inquiring with some friends that run a machine shop to fabricate me a new diffuser to work with my exhaust.

If you're not a routine Track Day guy I wouldn't be too concerned over it.

Scott

I can tell you the MXP is definitely NOT close to stock sound. Tone is good and a bit on the loud side.

I am running this exhaust and it sound great and doesn't drone at all. This exhaust is sound really even if you want to run straight pipe because it doesn't give you a rasp at all.
