Release Series Exhaust
Hello all,
So I'm looking specifically for an exhaust that meets the following and i was hoping someone could point me in the right direction: Must be quad tip and look as close to the trd quad tip on the car now must have good fitment with the trd bumper Must not have burnt/blue tips I'd really like something that is just sounds a little deeper and a little louder than the current as i don't mind the sound now, would just be nice to have it a bit louder. I've read about the hks but am not sure of sound and fitment Thanks everyone! |

Get a catless UEL header and a tune. Costs about the same as any of the quad tip catbacks. Here's why:
There's your deeper and louder sound problem solved. If you aren't satisfied you can step up the tone and volume even more by deleting the second cat, and you will get a significant gain in torque as a bonus, enough to really notice, from both mods.. You will not make any noticeable power with a catback alone. Kill two birds with one stone. What's the point of making more noise if you're still slower than the minivan next to you? If you don't want the rumbly boxer noise, get an EL header instead. You will still make more power and more noise than stock. Problem still solved. Last edited by Spartarus; 07-10-2015 at 10:12 PM. |

Sorry I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to this stuff. So a header will make the sound deeper and louder without even replacing the current quad tips?
Also, i couldn't care less about increasing hp or torque, just as long as i don't negatively effect the car as it stands. |

It will definitely make it louder, but I don't know if it will make it deeper, but you get the benefit of enjoying more useable torque all day long~ or Try catless/HFC front pipe if you are only looking for sound change. It won't effect the car negatively & It won't also hurt much of wallet in case you don't like the result. Also no need tune. |

Absolutely
Quote:
[Cylinder head] - [Header+(cat)] - [overpipe] - [front pipe+(cat &resonator)] - [mid pipe+(resonator)] - [muffler] Header (cat) reduces noise Front pipe has a (cat) and a (resonator), both reduce noise Mid pipe has a (resonator), reduces rasp mainly (Muffler) reduces noise change any link in the chain and the car gets louder. If you want deeper as well, keeping resonators is good, UEL headers are good. Everybody starts ignorant - that's what the forum's for. Quote:
Also, regarding negatively affecting the car, that cold start high RPM + late timing profile isn't so bad stock, but it becomes significantly more pronounced if you replace many parts of the stock exhaust. You will dread cold starts. It is god-awful. See videos of loud catbacks on cold starts. it sounds like nails in a coffee can, even on good quality exhausts that sound good on normal driving. A tune can remove that profile entirely. If you do get a header, don't get a header without getting a tune. A catless header will also throw a Check Engine Light unless you turn off the code that monitors primary catalytic converter performance. The purpose of that cold start profile is to warm up the catalytic converters quickly, it serves no other purpose. If you do get rid of it, there are 2 codes that monitor the cat warm-up performance that will have to be turned off or they will throw a check engine light. Don't be daunted by that, you won't have to do that yourself, it will all be in the tune. I wan't suggesting that you were after more power, but getting free bonus power when you're doing a mod for unrelated reasons is always a nice bonus. All I was saying. ***All of this information is already floating around on the forum. I put it here to be helpful, but search is your friend. Don't use the forum search, it's miserable. use Google and throw in site:ft86club.com in the search bar before your keywords

So much great information, thanks again. I read for what seems like hours but still wasn't sure lol. You guys have helped me make a decision! I will start with the pipe since it won't require a tune and see how it goes from there.

So I just put on an invidia front pipe, no cat no res...
Not sure I like the change in sound, it almost seems higher pitched instead of lower. Definitely a little louder tho. I'll have to drive it around a few days to really know I guess. Thanks again everyone! |

Resonators will lower the tone and reduce that high pitched raspiness you're hearing.

My review having the HKS HiPower Muffler was the best decision I made. You get that deep tone because of the huge resonators and get nice and loud when you add the UEL Headers on, and it doesn't sound like a Honda. Plus you get that deep boxer sound and many compliments. The price on them you can't beat, plus you get 3" inlet compare to other brands who have 2.5".

I even tried few different exhaust parts to be satisfied. It took me a 1.5 year. Lol I first got invidia N1 & it sounded very nice as only exhaust mod, but after I start adding HFC and Overpipe, it was too loud for me. So I switched N1 to Q300. After that I swapped HFC front pipe to catless front pipe then added catted UEL header & finally swapped to catless UEL recently. |

I took it out and opened it up just awhile ago and i definitely like it better, i think i just need to give it some time. This morning when i put it on i only had time to take it around the block so my judgement may have been a little hasty lol
