Tires 2016?

Season closing down at least here up north eh...

Just curious if there are any rumours of any new tires in the pipeline for next year or if it is expected we'll have the status quo to choose from in 2016?

My friend just came back from Nationals, and was elated with his RE71R's that he brought.

I have RE71rs, very happy with them.

They wear faster than my old Rivals/Star Specs tho.

I don't run the RE-71Rs, using the Michelin Pilot Super Sports but two fellow S2k drivers run them and they both give it a huge thumbs up.

They do wear out fairly quick though.

I had to go with the PSS because I don't have room for dedicated set of track/autoX tires yet. Once I get a trailer or some sort of way to transport the tires to and from, I'm jumping on the bandwagon.

Is there anybody who's run both the RE-71R and the Dunlop Z2 who can offer a general side by side comparison?

For sheer grip and performance, RE71 is far better than a Z2, it is not even close. Z2 and Z2SS are better 'everyday' tires and will last longer, but they don't come close to the RE71's performance.

For max performance in the Street Tire category, RE71R and Rival S stand far above the rest. This comes at a cost as their will wear out sooner.

Hankook RS3 and Dunlop Z2SS are in the tier below. I've heard the Kumho V720 is similar, but not much feedback on these yet to definitively say where they sit.

Dunlop Z2 is another step down, it is an older tire compound now. Replaced by the Z2SS.

PSS are a step or two below Z2s...

Just asking, is this based on personal experience or conventional wisdom?

It's just I could have written similar but I've only owned ZIISS.

This summary is pretty spot on, having driven on Z2, Z2*, RS3 V2, original Rival, and now RE-71R. The biggest difference with the latest generation is the longitudinal grip IMO. 71Rs are great in the wet as well.

Experience, conventional wisdom, and results.

On my own 86, I've autocrossed using the Primacys, PSS, RS3s and RE71Rs. I've also autocrossed using PSS, RS3s, RE71Rs, Rivals, Z2s and more on different cars within the past 12-24 months.

No direct experience with Z2SS, Rival S, or V720, but that is where conventional wisdom and results mirror my summarization.

If I didn't have what I thought was solid information about the tires potential, I'll mention it up front as I did with the V720.

I have a group of close friends that did some testing on tires this summer for autox. Same car/same day/same setup. Did RE71 vs. Rival S with 3 different drivers.

RE71 was out of the box faster, and consistently about .5 seconds faster then the Rival S over the course of the day.
